Archiving the shit out of this. So your dad would have been one of the very people you've been calling to be rounded up, processed, denied amenities and voting rights, and never to be seen again...and you "feel like that'd be a weird comfort"? Take note of the date, March 21, 2020. This is right at the start of the lockdowns in the states. I wonder how much his tune has changed or would he be all like "it'd be okay when MY family goes against everything I'm screaming at people (on twitter) to do. I checked the comments to see what conversation was goin on. There are 5 total but only three are showing, and those are all from troons. Only Luke reaches out to comfort Bob. The other two are not as nice with one almost saying "Gramps was all the worst -ists and I'm kinda glad he's dead"

If this came out a year later, with the same exact wording, I can only imagine the amount of coping and seething and dilating that would be going on.

Whether or not the parent needs to be dealt with in any way is another matter beyond the scope of this comment. But in general, it’s crucial that the trauma sufferer keep their focus on what they can do to recover. Focusing on people we can’t control is a distraction from doing the work of self-repair. It’s what Bob has been doing literally 24/7/365 for over a decade, and look how it’s worked out for him.

This is when I wish we had a "Yes, but..." rating or something.

You're not wrong, but it's also easy for a lot of kids to quickly embrace any refusal of their whims as "traumatic abuse" if they can gain something from it. Like Jonathan Haidt (I think) pointed out: kids in college engage in the exact opposite of cognitive behavioral therapy and do things to make them MORE fragile, not less.

Then again I am also growing suspicious of mental health professionals who seem to be doing exactly what everyone used to accuse pharmaceutical companies of.
