• youtube-dl can download currently running streams
• youtube-dl can grab the raw URL of a video, and ffmpeg can clip out parts of it without grabbing the whole video and rendering it in some program
• For simple shit like clipping out parts of a video and putting videos in sequence ffmpeg will be faster than video editing suites like Premiere, it just takes some time to us

Sorry, I'm technologically impaired, all I can do with youtubedl is download VODs, when I try to download ongoing streams I get errors.
