I saw a few people tweet that if taking down Kiwifarms prevents just one suicide, then it's worth doing.

That got me thinking. You know, there was that twitter troll linked to a Japanese reality star's suicide. Chrissy Teigen used twitter to try and encourage Courtney Stodden to commit suicide, along with Michael Costello, and they both considered ending their lives. Dr Death bragged on twitter about bullying someone to commit suicide, and said he'd do it again. 15,000 bullying tweets are sent daily, and psychologists are beginning to suspect it plays a huge role in suicide contagaion. People like Milo Yiannopoulos use Twitter to spread messages of hate and call for hate crimes daily - his account was removed, but it took a long time to remove that account - and there's many other accounts like his. We keep seeing examples of famous celebrities with an impressionable fan base having tweeted out hateful, offensive things and leaving those tweets for anyone to find - it could be grooming young people into becoming bigots.

The alt right famously used Twitter to radicalise angry young white men into committing hate crimes, and many trans people report experiencing dehumanising interactions with chasers and ongoing harassment from transphobes - to the point they have to maintain blocklists just to try and use the platform without experiencing people deliberately trying to set off their dysphoria in a way that could trigger suicidal ideation. Why, Byuu's own friends were purportedly harassed on Twitter by Twitter users - and if this is true, then if those harassers hadn't been able to reach those friends, he might still be alive.

I think it's clear what we need to do. We need to take down twitter. If deleting Twitter prevents just one suicide, then it's worth doing. I'll start a change.org petition about it.
