I mean Kiara’s literally half-Japanese, she was probably taught it by her parent as a kid.
And seconded on immersion being the real teacher. Like no shit you still have to put in some initiative and study a bit, but self-study + immersion (or even just having a native speaker to converse with on a regular basis) will get you functionally fluent (like.. able to read and hold basic conversations) with less time and effort.
If anything, the bigger issue to immersion is that smartphones and the Internet allows people to live in a city like Tokyo with zero knowledge of Japanese, since you can just order shit on Amazon and use Google Maps for directions.

I can see how Amelia resonates the most with Coco out of the EN crew. She came from a steaming environment where she could basically say, do an show almost anything. Now she has a lot of limitations and that is probably already putting a lot of stress in her. Coco was a pioneer and an explorer in what is allowed to be done in a ''seiso''istic agency like Hololive. Without her, folks like Amelia and others (maybe Kiara, Marine etc) lose an important ally.

On topic of Gigguk, and i'll be as unbiased as possible here.
He's done it right. His content is basically what 70-80% of weebs are thinking when something new in the "anime realm" comes along. A few recent examples include Vtubers, Gacha games, and popular anime.
He then condenses his thoughts in a 10-15 minute video and those 75% who watch it will like it (and 99% of his already established audience). It's incredibly predictable and sometimes average.
But it works.
There's a good reason he's the biggest anituber. Plus, he's not retarded and knows how to out himself publicly. Cringe? yeah but that's non-argument. Everyone with a name is cringe sometimes. Also he's racking cash and gaining those subs.
Now back to my biased opinions:
Every comment I read here criticising him just reeks envy. If this guy isn't to your liking keep it to yourself coz it's a losing battle. This digga is a good lad. Sure he's a sellout to a bunch of crap and his content ain't a gold mine but he's making it big regardless.

I thought of a two step plan to make audiences love Gigguk. One: Gigguk needs to be louder, angrier and have access to a time machine. Two: Whenever Gigguk's not on stream, all the other characters should be asking, "Where's Gigguk?"

The Calli and Mouse pairup is weird to me and I don't even know why. I guess I just have never really envisioned their styles meshing except maybe on music and being generally horrible at games lol. Some lessons with Mouse would turn Calli into an uno pro.
If she gets Calli with an equivalent of when she had Melody saying "torta" without knowing what it means, fun will be had by all.

The expat bubble is real thing, and many english speaking people, (american, euros, anglos, etc) will stick in there and use google translate for most daily shit. When I talk to them, it's mainly because they're more interested in making money and drinking than culture learning. Knowing a languge doesn't pay the bills and allow you to pay your cheap hookers after all.
Still, I have a feeling many people here severely underestimate how hard it is for unilingual Americans to learn Japanese. I mean it's not "put in some initiative and study a bit" like you said. Even with all the immersion you can get, let's look at some facts.
This is one of the most serious language institues there is.
Look at that goddamn curriculum. 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, and from what I've heard, it gives lots of homework. (+30 hours of actual study time). I lasts 1 year and half if you start with zero knowledge. Many Medicine universities have less hours. Another source for an intensive course. This time an interview with a dude who did the army Japanese language course. (11 minute mark)
16 month duration with almost 8 hours of classes per day (!) plus homework, he said, to be able at the end to skim through a japanese newspaper.
Let's also think. Without teachers, you are basically doubling/tripling your workload. You not only have to learn, but have to investigate on what to learn and how to advance so as not to stagnate and also correct your mistakes. That's much more work. And your time will be a lot less productive.
Let's say you self study 2 hours a day (reasonable pace) People in the equivalent intensive courses are doing 6 a day WITH teachers to guide them. And it still takes about a year and a half to be able to read well. So yeah, it's not an "easy" task to learn a foreign language. Especially on your own. Especially as a previous unilingual. I don't think Mori is lazy. It's just that the task is very hard. I'd say as a serious self-study goal, 5-6 years for an N2 is pretty reasonable.
