Ransomware is a separate beast from traditional hostage-y attacks. Even with the full might of every US agency, infinite money, and the world's smartest people all working on solving a proper ransomware attack, it's very hard to win.
It's like someone thousands of miles away has a digital gun to something and the second they think you're about to play hardball they can consequence-free pull the trigger and fuck your shit up nigh-irreversibly unless the victim has a crack information assurance team and resources which usually they don't when the attack happens.

The attackers usually hold all the cards in a high-profile attack like that because money is actively being lost when the attack goes on and the attackers usually have a reputation that if you pay them then they will let you go as promised. The quickest and safest thing to do is to pay up unfortunately.

I'm not sure. Probably sometime before HBO's Watchmen decided to mention it. I certainly don't remember hearing about it in US history classes, nor do I remember hearing the same from your typical left-wing blowhard in the media (Sharpton, Jessie Jackson, Dyson, etc.) until fairly recently. Granted you could say that about a lot of things such as whatever happened in some place (Stonewall...?) having to do with LGBT rights or something. Honestly a lot of these "grievances', if you will, were never particularly harped on until Obama came around.

I can't remember if i posted this already (or if i deleted it because pl) but i heard about it from a moorish-american guy who made it out to be an actual Black Wall Street, A wakanda way, way, way before the movie wakanda was a thing. but it's just a couple of blocks of businesses and shit.

I've been vaguely aware of it most of my life probably due to where I grew up. Speaking on that experience, there was always a portion of blacks who wanted to really promote "black" things and most people, including other blacks, didn't really give them the time of day because they were often veiled black supremacists or just edgy retards.
Black people have celebrated it basically as the true day of emancipation for a long time but off and on since sometime in the 70s or 80s as far as I know there have been pushes to make it a federal holiday.

I say "black people have celebrated it" but I don't know if it's largely regional or if it's truly national. I think it's fine as it is and frankly think we have too many federal holidays already.

first i've heard any black person talk about it here was last year. we'll see if they talk about it again in the same numbers this year ; if they do then it's going to be a long term thing. i think it'll make a peep but be drowned out by all the people worried they and their kids are going to be murdered in the random shootings that are taking place everyday now. now we have hit and runs that kill kids and people, it's getting out of hand. i heard yesterday some people didn't do the usual memorial barbecues because they were worried about shootings. and this is a middle class black area.
