At this point, I think that even elements of the left are starting to think like this. Sure, orange man was the worst thing to ever happen in their eyes, but in a way it was exhilarating for them to have a clear enemy to fight. He was the personification of everything they felt was wrong in society, and they could point to him as the root of all of society's ills.
Now that he's gone, they're no longer #resisting against Orange Hitler, they're stuck with some senile old fuck who's already stabbed them in the back not 6 months into his tenure as president. Maybe for some of them, they can look back fondly on the memories of tweeting endlessly about Russian collusion and Trump being a racist.
But alas, he's gone for now and they're left with a yawning emptiness inside them, a lack of purpose. To them, politics is just boring old people shit again.

Had an occasion where I got to overhear a couple gays talking to a 'friend' of theirs about how much they hated Trump. They kept dancing around what it was exactly they hated and got pissed when the guy mentioned that maybe people liked Trump's economic policy. The guy left though and the two gays then spoke honestly about how Pence wanted to electrocute the gay out of people and so on.
On some level they have to know how insane this shit sounds to outsiders so they can't really come out and say they really believe this insane shit, but in semi-private they're more than happy to unleash the insane views.
