I think that it is going to be a combination of factors.

We're going to be seeing a lot of suicides (moreso than what we're already seeing), detransitioning, tales of medical malpractice and other horror stories in the coming years. The rallying cry of the 41% is going to start ringing a little hollow when we look at the malfeasance that has been committed by those in the medical profession and in psychology.

Rubber stamping people to get themselves mutilated is going to come around and bite them in the ass. We're already starting to see it with these retards complaining about how they've been relegated to a lifetime of dilating a puss-filled, foul stench axe wound and how some of these surgeons are getting blasted for not making their axe wounds pretty enough. Once sexual reassignment surgery starts becoming a malpractice liability and more trouble than it is worth, we're going to see a lot of 'maybe we should reconsider this' from the medical community.

Nevermind that we're going to be due for a """bombshell""" to be dropped regarding the long term consequences of taking hormones and other body altering drugs. Especially when regarding the long term effects on children and teenagers. Trooning out children is going to be looked at in the same way as lobotomies in the 1950s are now viewed.

Someone linked to a trans widows website a ton of pages back. There weren't a lot of stories on the website, but it was fucking heartbreaking reading all these stories of these families that got just absolutely annihilated because of indulging in a mentally ill person's sex fantasies. These spouses, and the kids of these spouses, are going to be growing up in fucked up homes and are going to be speaking out.

Then we have all this legislation and other political grandstanding. Troons are going to become carcinogenic to politicians because they can't help themselves. Encroaching on normal things like sports, bathrooms and all the other shit that troons are demanding to be let into is going to have a blowback, like you said.

Finally, amidst all the seething, dilating and coping, the troons are going to be their own worst enemies to themselves. We're already seeing it with them fracturing the LGB community from themselves, but the purity/loyalty tests are going to continue and they're going to devour themselves and no one is going to care about a 3rd generation transgxn-kin feuding with an non-binary asexual demisexual advocate over pre-sexuals.

I think an important, but under remarked point is that the ability to pass is a strong proxy for psychological functioning and disordered behavior. The effect is extremely strong as well, where failure to even remotely pass is strongly associated with abnormal behavior and psychology, because you have multiple mechanisms in play.

Firstly, ability to pass in the first instance modifies probability of trooning out inversely to the degree of psychological abnormality. Effeminate gay men who can't pass don't troon out; violent autistic paedophiles, however, seem to be totally uncaring or delusional about passing. Secondly, ability to put in effort and particularly to direct effort appropriately is strongly associated with psychological normality. This is true in general, but it applies particularly strong to troons since so much more care and effort is required.

I actually went and read the tumblr post. It's not particularly interesting, or persuasive, the woman who made the video wrote the post, so it's a bit like she'd laughing at her own joke.

Spoiler: Longer

The chief problems for the woman who wrote the post are that: (1) She's just not very bright or well informed, so she does a poor job of contextualizing results and studies. This is a pretty generic problem though; mixing say studies on children with adults, conflating different types of surgeries, not grounding results in any kind of coherent framework (i.e. lacking any set of priors, permitting you to engage evidence in a totally ad hoc manner) or being conscious of what different hypotheses would predict. (2) She spends something like a 1/3rd of the post denouncing some negative studies as purely observational (i.e. lacking a control group)... then proceeds to make her case exclusively through citing observational studies. Apparently, she was not aware that this criticism applies to all troon studies and is a central reason why critics tend to place a low value on many studies of psych. outcomes etc. This is particularly true for the child-troon studies since trooned children tend to have far fewer serious mental health issues, so finding that their psych. functioning is good (or at least only slightly worse) is a non-finding.

A problem for both her and the TERF she's replying to, is that the scientific literature just doesn't offer any clear answers; it's consistently inconsistent. Sometimes you get positive results, sometimes nothing, sometimes negative, all depending on what intervention, the time window, the measure (e.g. subjective self-report, objective), the exact topic of inquiry (e.g. gender dysphoria, general psychological functioning). The probable truth is that the benefits are probably zero, but the costs are also pretty much zero too. My view is you tend to more find positive results for some interventions, particularly BA and FFS, because they're enabling someone to essentially be a better troon, but aren't a comparison of trooning vs. non-trooning. But, when it comes to the real question: is trooning out good? Then the answer is that it's probably a wash, maybe it's better in the very short term, maybe not. It's likely that in the long run the expected outcome is slightly negative simply because of the inherent social costs and limitations it places on you. Then again, many troons are autistic freakshows who are incapable of living normal lives, so maybe being a troon provides a community or a way of obtaining a relationship albeit with another freakshow.

It's also going to be a function of the particular subpopulation that you're looking at; autistic/non-autistic, HSTS/AGP, male/female and even things like married/unmarried or parent/childless. Moreover, from the perspective of what someone should do right now the question is ultimately unanswerable, because outcomes are going to be dependent on constantly evolving social and ideological factors. It is not just that evidence from the past is murky, but that the evidence that will be gathered in the future is inherently uncertain. Though, I would argue that the upside is probably fairly bounded. Another problem here is that troons are subject to a kind of Lucas critique problem where dysphoria is partially a function of their knowledge of possibilities and their belief about the 'realness' of gender identity and troonism. So, it could be simultaneously true that there were psychological benefits to trooning out for some marginal individual. It could also be true that outright banning all interventions could still yield the best over-all outcomes. Troonism is, after all, a socio-cultural disorder not an 'innate' biological one.
