They weren't? Wasn't there a restraining order sought (and granted) by the victim over it?
Now that I think about it, I guess you don't actually need DV charges (or convictions) to get a restraining order in most states, so maybe that's what happened here.
ETA:
It allows the admins to let their friends have a lot of de facto power without having to actually employ them and gives the admins plausible deniability when one of the power mods inevitably fucks up and gives reddit a black eye. They just ban the mod and wash their hands of it ("hey, it wasn't us, and we banned the guy, what more do you want?"). Then they quietly let the mod come back on a different account and resume their duties.
There have long been calls by sane(r) users to restrict the number of large subs a single user can moderate. It wouldn't be hard at all to implement such limits and it seems like a reasonable idea. Limit a user so they can only mod 3 subs with 50k+ users and allow them to mod any number of smaller ones. If they mod 3 big ones and another of their subs grows past 50k, force them to choose which sub to give up before allowing them to use the site (at all) until they do. Then use that ban evasion stuff they've obviously got running to watch for power mods trying to game the system.
The fact that they haven't implemented this fairly trivial functionality speaks volumes and lends credence to the idea that things are the way they are because the admins like it that way.
Yeah, he's a lot like Emke in that he's made no useful contributions to computer science. Thankfully he hasn't been as successful as Emke has in securing any kind of power outside reddit. Also thankfully, Emke himself has been falling out of favor everywhere he's tainted so his ability to cause damage is waning.
I own a few shares in a few different companies and I delight in voting against such initiatives whenever some jackass shareholders manage to get garbage like that put up for a vote.

Oh shit, I recognise that name, yeah he was a /r/drama mod for a while, was one of the people who started restricting what people could say and banning people for pinging or even saying the name Bardfinn. He'd rather choke the subreddit in stagnation and ban people one by one who broke some arbitrary rule rather than just go out in a blaze of glory like /r/CringeAnarchy or /r/Cumtown
Not because he likes the sub but because it would mean he'd lose moderation on one of his precious subreddits. He was a faggot five years ago when I still used reddit and it looks like he's still a faggot now.

Yeah, a ton of DV arrests end up like this because at the end of the day it's just two drunk retards acting like white trash children and needing an adult to come and separate them. When actual beatings are involved the state will often declare itself the victim and prosecute without the victim's cooperation, but very few states are going to want to go through the time and effort and cost of convicting somebody for angry poking.
And it's usually police policy that somebody gets arrested for every DV call, to separate the parties as a temporary safety precaution, no matter what. They don't care if the charges are likely to stick or not, they just don't want a domestic murder happening a few hours later.
No chance whatsoever, Terra Jones is extremely well acquainted with us and terrified of us, and knows exactly what kind of reception that retarded 'I'm a pretty big deal on reddit' act would get.
Terra knows not to pull shit like this in the same way you know not to turn on the gas burner and then lay your face down in it.

The charge was not dropped initially, but reduced in exchange for a "no contest" plea. The charge was reduced from Assault/Family Violence to Class C Assault. My guess is that designation kept him out of jail and avoided extra expense for the County and State. He was put on probation, forced to go to domestic violence counseling, drug and alcohol tested, and ordered to stay away from his wife. After he completed those aspects of "Community Supervision", his probation ended and his charges were dropped. The "VIP" mentions refer to "Violence Intervention Programs". The state certainly believed his ex's initial statement and later subpoenaed her to testify, which makes me think she may have forgiven him and then wanted to backtrack?
Also, to be clear as some users may have this confused: there were no charges for the child abuse allegations as that was an event that happened previously. His ex merely made the claim that an argument rehashing that event was the cause of the fight that the cops came to stop. There were no bruises on the five year old for cops to see as it was an old alleged incident.
Having charges dropped does not mean that he didn't do it, it's just that the courts and jails are clogged with way worse individuals and judges, even the hardline "throw the book at 'em" judges , know this and don't want to overflow their local jails. He jumped through the proper hoops, paid his $727 in court fines and fees, stayed clean, probably attended his meetings with his probation officer, etc. He probably wasn't an asshole in court, behaved, and kissed ass. That goes a long way with judges. As far as I know, he has avoided violent or drug-related incidents for 10 years.
While I have doubted that he is actually on HRT, I do wonder if some people are being pushed in that direction as part of a larger project to reduce violence? Would estrogen chill somebody like this out, at least in terms of physical violence? Just hypothesizing here, but it would be a sneaky social engineering way to reduce violence by turning brutes into smol kawaii princesses.

Merari01 is the worst kind of Reddit mod, as he's not unlike the mods of ResetEra. For example, he will often make a pinned post saying what the "allowed opinion" is on a given topic, and that if you have a different opinion you will be perma-banned with no appeal.
He literally turns popular subs into echo chambers by force, and the higher ups at Reddit co-sign this behaviour.

Ignore the toxic folks dude. Like some of the others were saying your input here is pretty significant, and speaking as a supporter of the old school AHS when there was real shit subs like coontown and jailbait etc, I was totally on their side, so I think your take on things is really interesting. Per my previous post I'd still really like to get your perspective

For what it's worth this guy joined same day as the janny, and out of 6 interactions on this site 2 of them have been comments praising the janny, and 1 of them was liking a status in support of the janny. Also he said toxic and folks in the same sentence so he's definitely a faggot
