Well he mentions the farms. The problem is DSP was actually kind of right for once a while back when he said (heavily paraphrased) that while a lot of kiwis aren't malicious, unfortunately then other, much stupider and crazier people come across the site, see a community based around messing with someone, then take it to an extreme because they have no sense of judgement or nuance.

As for why they obsessively latch on to specific people, I generally refer to this:

They have to prove to themselves they're better than whoever it is, because secretly they see way more in common with them than they want to admit, and they hate it.
