The interesting thing about Native Son is that Bigger Thomas is that he kills a young white girl, the whole city of Chicago is shut down with police banging every black family's door for him, and his lawyer is like the fiancee of the white girl he killed, who argues that the system caused Bigger Thomas to end up in the shit he is. Also interestingly enough, the fiancee is a Jewish socialist iirc who believes in the Civil Rights Movement along with the girl who he killed as the author wrote it, by accident. And some parallel is made where Bigger killed his own pregnant black girlfriend and the white girl, yet American society is punishing him for killing the white girl and the black girl is just the icing on the top otherwise nobody cares he killed a black woman. A lot of racial analogies made.
The author was a socialist who went on to live in France.
