General Discussion for Virtual Youtubers / Vtubers / Chuubas - it's okay to be a simp for 2D, just don't thirstpost.

Are the Holostars all around better than the girls when it comes to videogames?
Kira beat Jump King in a bit over 8 hours, and Astel is Master in APEX, isnt he?
Mostly yeah, Astel could eviscerate any Hololiver on Apex, Rikka did infinitely better than Ina and Fubuki in Hollow Knight and Oga flexed Megaman in like a hour instead of the 8 hours of Korone

I've seen Shien finish Mario 3D All Stars in just two streams, if that counts. And Temma is pretty good at Dead by Daylight from what I've seen

I suspect a lot of the subscriber drop-off for many of the girls is more due to the fad dying out. It won't look good to corporate because dumbass suits do not understand niche culture whatsoever. I think it's tourists getting bored and going off to chase a new trend. Those that remain in six months are going to be dedicated fans.
I can't imagine people actively going out of their way to manually unsubscribe en-masse from talents just because 'the fad is dying out'(which, in my opinion, it isn't yet) or they lost interest. Unless some drama is going on. And even then, this active phase is counter-balanced by catching new people during drama happening.
How often do people clean their subscribed list? Once a month? Year? Never?

This is YT deleting/unsubbing suspicious/inactive accounts since these uncommon rapid spurts of growth the girls get during their milestone, birthday or any other significant streams get algorithm all hot and bothered.
And fans manually unsubbing en-masse specifically during these milestone streams, just to keep the talent going, is in itself a traditional prank of sorts.

Also, right now there is a metric ton of people trying to figure out how to keep milking this cash cow and ensure retention.

@Cubanodun I think Zombo just writes an invitation message and then presses "send to all".

Callie, Zombo is not even that good in APEX

The only weird thing this week is Journey

Coco never really pullied massive numbers for regular streams outside of meme review and Asacoco. Sure the members only chat probably impacts her but I'd presume it mostly fucks over her growth, which basically nosedived after she came back rather than her viewership.

Oh and seemingly the ENs are doing their character creation for Calli's TTRPG this week, though it won't be streamed (source: Kiara's Diablo stream)

Not sure. Botan is on record for saying she's also a Master in APEX. Aqua has reached D1 and could've grinded for solo Master if she had more time before the split.

Haachama beat Getting Over It in under an hour, Luna and Coco are extremely proficient at MonHun. In terms of creativity on Minecraft, the girls have them beat.

Of course, you could argue that more members = more chance of having high level players, and I'd be inclined to agree. It's really not a question that can absolutely be answered.

I think it's just YouTube screwing up as usual.
YT has unsubscribed me from people I've followed for years just because I missed a few vids.
Regarding the popularity, I feel like this is only going to get bigger because of a couple of reasons.
A- the English talents have been extremely well-received and really got people talking about v-tubing in general.
B- it's a form of escapism that's very much needed with how turbulent and political most of the world is right now.
C- the pandemic allows for people to spend more time at home surfing the webs so this is a good time waster.
Speaking for myself that's mainly why I came to Kiwi Farms and got involved with Hololive.

Botan is/was apparently in the top 0.12% of Apex players globally. She's incredibly good at FPS games. I've watched her quite a lot, and her personality has rapidly made her my favorite girl of them all.

It is possible about the fad dying out bit, but its most likely not the real reason why the sub is decreasing.

Youtube always does this to basically all Youtubers whenever they reach a milestone, especially on the tenfold milestones (1 million, 10 million, etc). The word at Youtube say is to remove spam and bot accounts from the subs. How many it removes depends on the sub growth rate. I remember this happened back then on Pewds and several popular gaming channels.

Keep in mind that for a very large majority, they will not unsubscribe simply because it's not trendy anymore. Only shits like controversies and cancel culture will.

I'm still subbed to channels that I subbed to in 2007, I don't see many people just dropping the fad so hard they unsub.

A lot of good points raised well enough that I am probably jumping the gun, especially since unsubbing is something of a troll and Youtube has a history of unsubbing people for no good reason. I still think sub count increases will diminish as time goes on and start to recede eventually as the tourists get bored. I figured we've hit peak already but maybe I'm wrong and haven't hit peak yet.

Sub count growth is already slowing down for quite awhile now tbh. Hype for them is slowly but surely fading but they are still doing extremely well. Hololive probably peaked already and i highly doubt holoEN gen 2 debut can match gura(for peak sub growth) really. And sub count really doesn't seem to translate in live viewers.

Velocity-wise they've definitely peaked; the Japanese girls have been growing very slowly (albeit still growing) for a while and there's been a noticeable slowdown with EN. While Gura will definitely hit 3 million this year (if not this summer), she's an outlier and isn't a good comparison to the others.

I believe EN gen 2 will do fine, but as mentioned a while back it won't be a case of first member to a million subs - it'll be first to 500k. There's just too much competition now to see the massive growth spurts of last year. The popular ones will always have a place given the timing of their premieres and their personalities, but any aspiring or second-tier chubas will have to put in serious long-term work if they want to reach a similar level. Expect to start seeing more graduations as this realization hits in the upcoming 12-24 months.

Will be interesting seeing if we get Hololive (or hell even Niji) considering making a Spanish, French, or German group though as such foreign language markets are about the only untapped vtuber frontier remaining.
