It's fun to point this out in case no one has noticed. The first two days of the trial Twitter had it front and center in the trending and news. As the week continued on you could see they slowly shoved it down and away. Starting this week they're not even bothering with continuing coverage... Probably because they realized they were helping the public view of Chauvin, and we can't have that.

R/Minneapolis mod. The past year has been interesting.
Current issue: We're attempting to run daily discussion threads on the Chauvin trial because that is what our community wants. Obviously we're bombarded with trolls. Every day 4Chan links to our threads. Simply making this post is going to paint a target on me.
We've installed karma and account age limitations, cranked Crowd Control all the way up, and have our full team on hand (during working hours mind you) to remove comments and ban the bad actors. We've taken a strong-armed approach; pretty much anyone who doesn't have a history in our sub or any related sister sub is banned until the trial is over.
The solution to this problem sure seems simple. Allow Automod to filter sub specific karma. We know that reddit does this because they've told us. When I've asked the admins if this will be rolled out I've yet to receive a response.
This situation is frustrating, so any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Mostly I just want to hear from the admins if they have any plans for sub specific karma filtering in automod. The past year would have been a lot less stressful with it and I imagine that is applicable to all subs that find themselves in the troll's crosshairs.

Heya - while we’re not likely to introduce the ability to filter based on subreddit specific karma as in most cases that would lead to loops where communities are even more inaccessible for new users - what I can pass on to the Safety team though is the idea of giving automod the ability to act on CC’d comments, or maybe they would consider a stronger level of Crowd Control which did more than minimize the comments.
I can’t promise either of those things, but I will pass this on to them - beyond that, I do want to make sure you’re reporting these when they happen so we can take a look. You can find all the report forms here
I would also really encourage you to think about the mod corps - having a few extra mods in a crisis can be a ton of help and you could add them with more limited permissions and make it clear they are temporary.

For that one person that says that if Chauvin is aquitted, riots would be a just reward don't understand that the was to misinform the media is pushing makes any public reaction not "worth it". This sounds retarded, especially if you've heard it 20 times already, but this is because of the rules of evidence. You can't just introduce some written report someone wrote a few months or years ago as evidence itself, so you have to pretend that the witness is "refreshing their recollection" instead of just reading something back they wrote months ago and have no actual real memory of any more.

So as dumb as this prosecutor is, she's really just reciting legal magic words she has to recite to introduce something as evidence that would otherwise be prohibited.

My interactions with cops incidentally aren't even a humblebrag. I've had to deal with cops partly because of my own less than legal behavior, partly just randomly, partly because I've had jobs (that do not involve law) where I have just had shifts that overlapped, and on some occasions, just for purposes actually directly related to their job.

There is nothing magic about cops. They are not some weird, innately evil race, nor are they pure white knights. They are just people with a job that sometimes involves dealing out violence. Sometimes, people get hurt. Sometimes, people get killed. However, ACAB shit is for mental children angry at their dads.

I also reiterate the advice that caused some people to chimp out for no comprehensible reason. If you interact with a cop, be friendly. Be nice. You might just end up with a friend in a position to make things go a lot more smoothly if the shit ever hits the fan.

Reddit was a mistake

It's not like there isn't a bunch of accelerationists in this very thread, myself included, who thinks that massive civil unrest will ultimately be good for us in the long term.

I hope the outcome of this trial results in riots 10x worse than the ones last year. It will put us that much closer to curing the societal cancer we're suffering from.
