I'm wary of eugenics in general. Like a lot of man's achievements, there is a potential for abuse. When you play God, it will backfire on you. Who's to say that the genetically perfect, physically attractive people of the future won't be rejects from a Bret Easton Ellis novel?

I don't really like to think I have autism. A mistake. A biological failure. At many times, I feel ashamed that I have this disorder. But I am striving to ensure I don't wind up being a lolcow myself. I don't want pity, I just want you to understand. We're not all like CWC.

I would like to remind you that if you're not a complete idiot who repeatedly makes a fool of themselves, you shouldn't be ashamed. Remember, it's the actions of the individual, not the genetics.

What I mean to say is that eugenics and genetic screening/engineering would rob people of what makes them human. We'd just be hedonistic automatons, snorting coke and screwing each other, figuratively and literally.

You're completely forgetting what genetics affects.

Just because autism managed to get completely wiped out DOESN'T mean that we'll become monsters.
We'll just be mankind minus the autism, which in a sense, is somewhat of an improvement. No more people dealing with the horrors of not being able to control their bodies (In cases of extreme autism).
 
Eugenics is all very well and good but we would still attack the worst of the worst. Making everyone better is not the same as making everyone equal, evolution has been making everyone better for hundreds of thousands of years.

Jesus, man, it's not like we're removing their personality. You almost had an actual point there. It's too bad that the world isn't all black and white like you're saying it is. The ethicality of eugenics is questionable, but you need to phrase your argument in a reasonable way.

It sounds like you had good parents who cared enough to do something about it, which means that at least in your case the treatments have worked. But those same techniques and treatments were developed by people studying the condition in an attempt to resolve it.

Listen, I completely understand how you feel. The easiest way to feel better about the people here is to get to know them, and relax a small bit. As long as you don't do anything rash and foolish, you'll be fine!

I mean, you don't strike me as the kind of person who'd do something like that.

What I be like if, for the sake of argument, I underwent some radical procedure that made me neurologically and psychologically normal? What would become of me then? That's the frightening part.
