If you're going to go that route, then you can pretty much make the same pilpul argument for any story or myth.

Legends and Archetypes are formed and adapt alongside the culture, not independent of one another.

I would argue that Johnny Appleseed is a specifically american mythology. Why not the same for Robin Hood in England? One based on a real person, one said to be, both of who did things that were of a very specific benefit to the country they arose in. Just because myths and legends spread to other cultures doesn't undermine that they form in a very specific situation and place. For example, you know of the Baba Yaga concept, and while you can read and appreciate those stories, someone who's Russian is going to understand certain aspects that don't even register to you because those things are references to things of a purely Russian nature not present in say, Korean culture.

The American right has always been conscious of the poor and middle class. Their approach has just been that it's up to people to make it themselves rather than to rely on government intervention to create success for them. This is why most free-market capitalists are first in line to support anti-trust and anti-monopoly regulations. The government should hand you wealth, but it certainly should ensure that the means of attaining wealth are freely available to anyone with the smarts to participate.
