While possible and quite likely that I have missed some as I'm very easily distracted type and likely somewhat face blind, I have spotted at least four trans in the wild, no warnings or hints. Three were MtF and one was FtM. Just to be clear I'm not in area where trans is terribly big and none of these were in situations where trans are more likely than avarice like pride or art school. One of the males was super clearly MtF trans but other two did fool me for a moment. Not very long one but still. Actually fool me might not be right wording with one of them. I clocked him as male immediately but it took me awhile to realize that he wasn't wearing silly accessories as prank but actually trying pass as a woman. Dudes are easier to spot, the size just gives away so much, but the FtM just caused a long uncanny valley effect till I figured what was bothering me. She had a full beard and was wearing pretty normal wearing winter clothes and I was confused why I was feeling so uneasy. The first thing I spotted was that she was pretty short and petite for a guy but the real give away was voice. That made everything click.This is sort of what I tried to allude to yesterday. I think we're confusing several different scenarios here:
Personally, I almost never meet anyone I identify as MtF, and I live in a very trans-friendly region. Then again, I didn't get out that much even before the pandemic, and when I do I mostly try to avoid interacting with other people because, y'know, people suck. I'm sure it's different for people who work in customer service or otherwise have to deal with people more directly than I do, but even they probably wouldn't guess 100 percent. On this site we're conditioned to think primarily of AGP coomers, because lolcow. But some trans women do actually know how to wear clothes and makeup and carry themselves in a typically feminine manner. If I ran into NikkieTutorials at the mall (assuming I didn't who she was) I doubt I'd clock her in a million years, even without her makeup, and she's enormous. Some women are just tall.
- You're shown a person and told that they are transgender, and asked to point out the signs. That's what happens most often in this thread, and of course we're always ready to rattle off a list of all the things that prove that of course this person is a tranny and no one could ever possibly be fooled.
- You're shown a group of people, told that one of them is transgender, and asked to identify them. In that scenario your guard is up, and you actively look at each person for telltale signs. This is also usually easy, although I'm sure we've all seen posts where someone confidently explains in detail all the ways a tranny is failing to clock, only to be told "No, that's actually a woman; the tranny is to her right."
- You're just going about your day, meeting and interacting with people, living your life. Do you clock all the trannies? Are you sure?
And of course FtMs are something else entirely. I find it significant that when Zeke Smith was outed, most or all of the other players were visibly floored. These are people who had spent weeks living, eating, and sleeping in close proximity to him in a small group, and they had no idea he was FtM. Even stuck on an island for days with nothing much to do, they weren't thinking about skull size or elbow angles or even hips. Their brains saw a beard and chest hair and stopped thinking about it. Testosterone really is a hell of a drug.

Being fair, only 62 out of nearly 23k patients being known detransitioners is a small number. But it's entirely possible that other patients detrainsitioned and didn't contact the doctor that butchered them in the first place about it. By the study's own admission, half of the surgeons that responded encountered a detransitioner. Also at the end there is a nice little part about chronic post operative pains. Another factor is contacts vs. glasses. Some women see contacts as "more feminine" because you can wear makeup without smudging it on the lenses and having to clean them all the time. Wearing glasses is seen as "more masculine" when you are wearing them instead of contacts and makeup.
