I forgot that High School DxD got an anime adaptation in 2012, which had to have been after they dubbed Dance in the Vampire Bund. FUNimation was more than happy to license that and dub it after the success of Panty and Stocking, both of which are far from milquetoast smut.

Heaven's Lost Property predates all of them, though, right?

DxD and Panty and Stocking had genuine normie appeal (read: pseudo patricians who watched 3 decent-good shonen feat Cowboy Bebop and GitS) despite being fapbait shows.
