Probably the best take on the whole thing has been this one here. The Democrats are being insanely sore winners (in the culture war) and have shown themselves to be that way for decades. Even though they're hated electorally and seem likely to lose the election even with their cheating, they control all the levers of unelected power and won't hesitate to use them to silence anyone. At the same time as they hold their boot down on the neck of the nation they're married to the narrative that they're also the underdog and that they're facing an uphill battle against the powers that be in society.

When one party can throw the entire election into doubt just by their stranglehold over information, it's not an own if the election seems close.
