I know you're being pithy here and making a really simplified statement, but it should be noted that it was also because he actually talked about some important issues like immigration, illegal immigration in particular, and actually putting Americans first. All three things that the uniparty have all but ignored or took the opposite approach on for a long time.

The only reason why people flipout about it, is because the MSM is flipping out about it, eventhough the mortality rate is 0.002% for under 30 year olds and like 7% for over 70 year olds. It's almost like people can't think for themselves and just have to get feed the information, because looking up information is like so hard.
We are in an age where information is freely available and we somehow have gotten dumber in the last 30 years. These idiots really deserve this fear.

Hate to break it to this dude, but in the apparently unlikely event Trump loses, he's still got a bigger and even more enthusiastic following than he's ever had, and the people who have come to support him are going to want to hear what he has to say.
So, if Kamala Harris manages to ride into office in the Trojan Horse of a Biden presidency (because that's what the DNC has been planning all along), Donald Trump is going to have a lot to say about that, and people are going to show up to hear it, because he pulls no punches and is one funny motherfucker. He could start a podcast--I know there are plenty of skilled people who would be more than happy to get him off and running--and be the biggest fucking thorn in the Dems' side for the next four years. And whoever he backs in 2024 is going to get a huge push, straight out of the gate.
Even if he loses the presidential election, he won't be defeated, and won't fade away into quiet irrelevancy. Are you kidding? He's Donald fucking Trump.
One other thing I saw yesterday: two separate individuals wheeling out carts with multiple cases of disposable masks. Now, maybe they're business owners with on-site employees, go through masks quickly, and were stocking up to avoid possible future shortages. But it was the first time I'd seen that. I didn't think to look at hand sanitizer, gloves, peroxide, or any of the other stuff panic buyers grabbed up back in March.
I'm still a registered Democrat, and I voted for Trump, as well as a bunch of other Republicans, and No on a bunch of progressive measures that I might have voted Yes on as recently as two years ago.
I know I'm a weirdo, but I can't be the only old-school liberal Democrat who either voted for Trump, voted third-party, wrote in a candidate (I was going to write in Tulsi Gabbard before committing to Trump)--or just decided, "Fuck it; this is a solidly blue state, so I'm sitting this one out."

It's almost a little hard to believe that we're here, already. This has somehow been the longest and the shortest four years I've ever dealt with. It's been a weird fucking ride, though. I started this whole thing off as some dipshit Bernie bro who thought the media was a little skeevy, really didn't care much for FOX, really didn't believe with any capacity that Trump could win the election, but generally just... Kind of an unpolitical person, for the most part.
Fast forward about four years and all of my friends went crazy, my faith in every single media outlet is so low that I'd legitimately call it irreversible, I've somehow gone from borderline apolitical with a Democrat leaning into a person that's turned politics into a hobby, and I'm just sitting here waving an American flag and wearing a MAGA hat going, "What the fuck happened?"
The polls are still begging me to be scared, Nate's still screaming about whatever bullshit he's divinated from his bald spot, Joe Biden's still pretending that he's actually campaigning through an ocean of honking cars, and I'm still not worried. The fact that the polls are already starting to violently switch places again just like 2016 is pretty hilarious, but I'm just twiddling my thumbs and watching the calendar waiting for voting day, and it's kind of astounding that we're already here.

I had a slight headstart on you, but I voted for Trump with an upturned nose and a grimace. Biting my tongue as I decided I could -not- allow Clinton to win without at least trying to stop it with my vote.
Now... Trump 2020, yee haw! How? Why? DON"T KNOW! I just know the democrats went nuts, the political establishment and media are irreversibly horrid, and Trump turned out to be pretty alright.

It's probably better put in the Wu Flu megathread, but I've noticed that it's still difficult to find rubbing alcohol in my area, with peroxide not being too much better. Plenty of sanitizer and masks though. And you're shit outta luck if you want a stronger concentration than 70%; I went to various stores to see if I could get something stronger for some electronics cleaning I wanted to do, but came up with squat. Gonna have to get some of that online I guess.
Anyway, more on topic with regards to your post and:
I've been a lifelong Republican because that's how my parents were, and I just never really thought about it beyond "well I just don't vote Democrat." College didn't really change my opinions, going into a relatively apolitical major like I did helped me avoid a lot of the leftist crazies (although I remember a TA for a history class being really lefty and not even bothering to hide it; it was hilarious watching him get buttmad at a couple students who didn't go along with the orthodoxy). I was never really enthusiastic one way or the other, but the constant dicksucking of Obama by the media and refusal to actually give his presidency any sort of a critical eye really ensured I wasn't going to go blue anytime soon.
I know Gamergate won't really end up in the history books or anything, but that was the first turning point for me. With one of my main hobbies becoming increasingly politicized, it was getting harder to enjoy it as an escape from the real world and its problems. GG was nothing more than an internet slapfight, but it was one where fans of all political backgrounds just said "fuck off" to the constant leftist infiltration, and in the process they revealed a lot of scumfucks for who they really were. It also led me to Breitbart, who ended up being one of the first champions of Donald Trump when he announced his candidacy for president. Right-wing as hell, but they didn't hide it, didn't pretend they were being completely objective, and gave perspectives that the mainstream media refused to air.
Trump was the first presidential candidate I was actually enthusiastic about. There's a big difference between voting for someone because he isn't the other guy, and voting for someone because you really want to see them win. Obviously I was entirely put off by Shillary's grating demeanor and horrendous track record, but Trump was saying a lot of stuff I agreed with, and that was a big reason for my support, but the relentless attacks against him for the most bizarre reasons crystallized my support. Watching as seemingly normal people ended up consumed by their hatred for the Bad Orange Man, spouting off demonstrably untrue statements about him, completely leaving the realm of reason and logic behind...it was and remains insane.
I was proud to vote for Trump in 2016, and I'm even happier to vote for him in 2020. I just pray that the Dems don't manage to steal the election through the widespread voter fraud they're so obviously planning.
