Also, if Lorne left, some asshole (and not part of the inner circle of creatives that Lorne keeps on retainer like Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon, Seth Meyers, etc) hired by corporate would take over and make shit much much much worse. Case in point, the only thing keeping the show live, let alone with a musical guest/host is Lorne. The network has long dreamed of getting rid of the show being live or even a host/musical guest since that cost money and doing a couple of marathon filming sessions over a week or two for a season's worth of sketches would be cheaper. Best case scenario is that you would get something like Mad TV which wasn't topical or lacking Weekend Update but (in theory) would have time to fine tune sketches. Worse case scenario, you'd have "In Living Color"; which would have a hit to miss ratio of about 1-2 good sketch for every 4-5 bad sketches.

I don't care whose side you're on, political songs like this are super cringe. When did people start writing up and singing songs/song parodies to do with their politics? It's always stupid, it's always cringe, and it gets more cringe when that massively dated song ends up focused on something that fizzled out.

Also: remember when they instantly turned on Mueller and called him a Russian agent when his report came back with 'sorry, I got nothing'? I do.

Fun fact: they only turned on Mueller for about five minutes until they realized how it looked turning on him and the incoming cognitive dissonance hitting them, so they IMMEDATELY quadrupled down on defending Mueller and started screeching that Mueller's report was sabotaged by Trump and that America was just too retarded/stupid to see the parts where Mueller was saying Trump was guilty with regards to "Mueller didn't exonerate Trump 100% so he's still guilty!"

Best part is that this is exactly what happened, both with Barret and Kavanaugh. It was Harry Reid who pushed through a change to making Supreme Court confirmations a simple majority when it had previously been a super-majority so they (the Democratic Senate) could ram whoever they wanted through. He was literally warned on the Senate floor that this would come back to bite the Democrats in the ass once they lost power.

Man, I find myself on the opposite end of my parents it seems when it comes to discussing Trump. I started a debate with them, and I admit, I lost pretty badly.

They brought up how Trump doesn't exactly seem concerned with uniting the nation so much as presenting his image, hasn't given up his tax records in three years, saying that while Biden has, Trump is gonna wait until after the election (which they see as him hiding something), hasn't properly addressed the white supremacy groups or done much to oppose them, pointed out the images of all those crying kids who have been separated from their parents due to the latter being deported (living conditions matter less than being with their loving mom and dad, as opposed to being orphaned or in foster homes), and in general, believe that he lacks integrity as a leader, having done more to divide when he should be making steps to unify the country, which they believe he could do, but deliberately doesn't.

When I asked them about the media bias and the like, they also acknowledged that, saying they go for one's they believe are a bit more credible, like AP, FOX and the BBC. In general, they aren't gonna vote for Trump.

Again, I didn't really know what to say to all that. What all could I bring up for the opposite side? Especially since they want me to think more for myself and to not believe everything I see on the internet?

There's a whole lot of seething amongst saner Democrats regarding how awful Biden is. In a couple months we'll probably be seeing Democrats moving on from Biden without much fuss given there's nothing appealing to him. At least Hillary could be incredibly charismatic (the way most higher up politicians can be), this time around Biden is stuck just seeming angry and confused to the point that people think he has dementia. Hillary on the other hand was campaigning and seeming at least semi-together even when she had pneumonia, she just had them do shorter rallies and put out a stool for her to rest on. She even did that pickle jar bit to mockingly prove the idea she wasn't well.

It's fucking amazing how much of a downgrade Biden is from Hillary in terms of charisma and energy.

Could bring up how kids get borrowed or rented to help people bypass the US immigration system since it's playing off people's natural sympathies. It's why border patrol do DNA tests to see if the 'families' coming over are really families.

With the tax stuff it's Trump being a slimy businessman. But who cares? The real estate business is something I bring up to people as a reason to be pro-Trump, as a politician invested in properties in the US he only gets enriched if the country those properties are in is doing well so that property values rise. Which is different from average politicians that are invested in international businesses like energy companies.

As far as Trump being divisive that's more a matter of Democrats being mad than Trump actively doing anything to antagonize them. Could always ask what it is Trump did that was divisive. Because most of the time the divisiveness boils down to Democrats being upset that Trump wanted to make deals where his side got something, which in itself is a lot more divisive than anything Trump has done.

This is basically what I've been saying for quite awhile when people keep acting shocked that the Democrats keep making decisions that will probably hand Trump a second term. Literally why should they care if they win the White House back next week? Four more years of Trump isn't exactly the worst thing for them. Immigration isn't going to come to a halt even if it does slow down (and you can be assured that that the numbers will go up again when people chill out about Covid). The demographics will still be getting more and more brown between white boomers heading to the great Walmart in the sky, and non-whites outbreeding (and increasingly interbreeding with) whites.. A new crop (and as you pointed out, they're increasingly and will soon be, forever, majority brown) of young voters will have turned 18 for the next election and everyone one after that.

"Oh no, four more years of the Orange Man" really just means they get to harp on about "white supremacy" and a "need for diversity" for another (almost) half a decade while America keeps on its steady march towards Brazilification. The higher ups in government and in business understand this about demographics. Republicans understand that their base is being decimated and Democrats understand that they've already succeeded in crippling it in the long term (other than the vocal group of actual retards who think that the Klan is about to start descending on everyone like it's a uncovered white linen scene from Red Dawn). And literally everyone, not even people involved in business or politics knows that every group has explicit mainstream advocates except for whites (and that it won't change any time soon). Furthermore lets face it, the Republicans aren't exactly staunch defenders of conservatism nor is Trump, and post-Trump they're going to cuck out even more than they did before probably.

Now of course the new big block of America seems to be hispanics and they're still a little more conservative but unlike white people they have a lot more in group preference (and a lot less outright hostility towards their own). It might sound a bit like I'm contradicting the final part of my first paragraph here, but maybe the Democrats/left won't just steamroll everything post-2024 but only because the Republicans/right will slide so far over in terms of idpol to cater to the new big group in a few generations. Both parties and all sides can be assured to assure more gibs, more quotas over bullshit, etc.

I do agree regarding scarcity, but I'm trying to think mostly as if I was one of these western politicians, and that seems to be to for the most part to assume that infinite growth is a given not simply a hope. And for many of them even if it's not going to work out in the way that they want they don't care since they'll be dead.
