All those features made sense as paid subscriptions 15 years ago. It ate up a ton of bandwidth. Nowadays? No way.

Anyone ever remember the absolutely autistic reqs some forums had for avatars? There was even a trick to make your avatar a gif or a set of randomized pictures by tricking the software to linking to an offsite server. Wasn't it like 10mb free hosting at some places?

and to think i might've signed up for the lp subforum ages ago and became a goon if lowtax wasn't a greedy toesucker.. yep, it sure was a good thing i ended up on boards.4chan.org instead

The "trick" was to use an HTML link to the image in your custom text. No such thing as sanitizing input for Team Barry.

Maybe like ONE time, I MIGHT try the $70 chocolate chip cookies.

Or maybe just try making them like he says in the above video.

Dumb question, but did Jeff buy the entirety of the SA brand, or did he only buy the forums? I glanced at the main website out of curiosity and noticed that the copyright at the bottom still says Copyright ©2020 Rich "Lowtax" Kyanka.

Then again, most people don't seem to care much about the actual website since it last updated in July, so I guess he just hasn't gotten around to updating that yet.

Phone posting so can't cap. Someone asked him in the QCS thread. He now owns the Something Awful name.

There's a front page?

I don't know how much Lowtax got for selling Something Awful, but it must've been worth a lot considering how lucrative his Patreon bucks were.

If Lowtax wasn't such a sperg, I'd think Null was jealous of how much money Richard made from barely keeping a forum alive.
His Patreon bucks went away when his lady slapping antics went public-er

If the retard didn't buy the SA brand.....fucking lol. That's all its fucking worth right now. I'd just shut down the front page and re-direct the domain to the forums. The bandwidth costs are probably not worth the fucking money. But I'd never fucking buy SA, Talk about a waste of fucking money, Jesus.

The money only made sense when SA was at the height of its popularity, when there wasn't anything else like it. Now there are fucking comments sections on IGN with more lenient moderation than SA and better content. When you had game devs posting there and shit. Now? What the fuck are you doing? Nobody goes to SA anymore, fucking nobody. Anything worth it just fled the sinking ship like rats. Lowtax should have sold it for millions like everyone else during the dot com boom. Instead, he didn't, then did nothing with it. Pretty much all competitors and clones of SA made out like fucking bandits, EXCEPT for Lowtax. Then he proceeded to run the fucking thing into the ground. He probably made less money off SA in all this time than if he just sold the fucking thing and lived off the interest.

But like I said, the history of SA is littered with stupid faggots SA as a petty fiefdom for their own little kingdoms where they could be in control. Lowtax was one of these and he did use it, until he was so retarded he got everyone smart and funny to run the fuck away, then relied on Radium, who basically snatched the code away from him to basically extort Lowtax into paying him, which Lowtax did, shit wages but hey, he got control of SA...which is uh....not...worth it. Its like taking over a shit filled toilet for your exclusive use. And the super is too drunk and on pills to do anything about it. Then he put in charge retarded fucking mods and admins who basically took all control away from him. So eventually he was exiled.

Basically, he let the forum run itself and just tried to earn money anywhere else. Now with total and complete loss of control, Lowtax doesn't want to be bothered with the thing. He probably sold the fucking thing for 50k and a case of Zima.

And the fucking pricing, Jesus. Remember, people could pay to change your avatar and people had to pay to change it back. Changing your avatar was one time use, Like a fucking token. Why anyone, ANYONE would pay for this is beyond fucking me in this day and age.

I also remember the 'Ban' sprees that Lowtax would go on when he was getting low on boxed wine and ambien. It was OH SO WACKY, where he'd just mass ban users and you had to pay to get unbanned, until people realized, "Oh, this faggot forum isn't worth it" and just check out. Also its forum had an economic model where it was profitable to ban people. It was amazing that shit lasted for as long as it did.

Only Lowtax gave a fuck about the front page.

EDIT:
I also remember people used to fuck with Lowtax by using chargebacks if they got banned.

While I'm still thinking about the front page, I just remembered this old quote Lowtax himself wrote in a 2016 article making fun of internet commenters and Star Citizen, and goddamn if it hasn't aged like a fine wine:

His patreon was tied to pity and blackmail. It wasn’t pulling in much for a long time and then he made a big announcement on SA that his spine was broken, he needed surgery, was drowning in debt, negative bank balance and he was going to have to shut the site down if he didn’t get some more money, plus his patreon GG link. It was flat out “save me goons” - and they did

Goons ponied up and even former goons donated when the change cup was rattled around other corners of in the internet by “signal boosting.”

It’s funny to read his post after he realized it passed $10,000 a month and was still going - suddenly goons were the greatest community ever. Now that they stopped giving him money they are traitorous bastards he is so glad to be rid of.

It hasn't stopped him from using the Something Awful shite on the patreon which begs the question - that patreon should now belong to Jeffery is a Toss Pot or whatever he is called?

The last 18 months have been a ride and it's nowhere near finished.

And you lost it all (except archives) if you got banned.

That was always one of the more amazing things to me. What kind of absolute loser, what kind of utter cuck, puts up with a forum literally just stealing their money randomly every couple months?

Apparently goons. Only goons are that pathetic, that cucked.

"my inevitable suicide"

We're waiting, Rich.

Do a flip, it's down the road, not across the street, or aim for the brain if you're using a shotgun although you might have a hard time with such a small target.

It’s funnier to watch it go to zero. Speaking of his patreon it’s dropped about $50 the last day. There’s probably still quite a few people that are just finding out about his wife beating.

if lowtax killed himself it would be by accident.

The $10 was a little funny in years past when there really wasn't paid content anywhere, save for porn. It's only really recently that content creators monetized their efforts and affordable streaming services popped up. It was kind of funny, honestly, to have to pay for "content" which consisted of "gas thread, ban OP" and "you == gay", the internet was truly a wild and free place.
