So I took a political compass text on a whim because I was curious if I had changed this year. Nope. I'm actually pretty close to where I was four years ago. My stances on some individual things have changed but I'm still some flavor of moderate. I guess I didn't change so much as the entire left shifted over? I'm sure that I'm not alone in that.
I've been rereading Marcus Aurelius' Meditations recently and it really hits home. I just kind of wish more people on the far left would crack some actual philosophy books open and try to rationalize things on their own. Actually self reflect.

I think the energy has started to go out of these protests for a fairly predictable reason, namely that it's now needed for the elections. Don't get me wrong, it's far from over, but you can see it in this thread and on other forums in terms of things slowing down. The mainstream support they have has moved its attention elsewhere. There'll still be focus and if any impactful events come out of them there'll be attention returned but they are now the stereotype of the ignored first child when there's a new baby.
It was an inevitable result as soon as the commentary started to go onto the "This is because we're living in HtilerTrump's America." It's a nice story and gets BLM slightly more attention but it also means that as soon as the election comes the protest's time in the spotlight is over, they need to step aside and provide support for the cause that really matters! Don't worry, this time around if they win the Democrats will definitely eliminate racism.
You're entirely right that America's chaos is due to get worse but I think it won't be under the flag of BLM with the next big kickoff.

John Cusack is rumored to be a mega pussyhound who treats other people like shit. It seems like he doesn't act like an ass on set at least since his career isn't as dead as other abusive actors. I've heard mixed reviews of Joan, but never anything bad about Ann.
One concrete story I heard is that Cusack spurned Jeremy Piven as a friend once Piven started getting successful in his own right (instead of relying on Cusack for work). They'd been friends since childhood.
Basically all the food carts in Portland open late and open reliably (the hipster food trucks are open when the owners feel like working, which seems to be about never) are run by immigrants, either Asian or Middle Eastern. I'm pretty sure I ate at Small Pharoah's during my last trip down there. It was the main cart/truck doing business after midnight, so I'm sure they put up with a lot of bullshit.

If they actually go through with this, this’ll probably go just as well as the “homeless housing project.” They decided that creating nice-looking, one bedroom apartments should be the fix to getting the homeless off the streets, subsidizing the rent with local and federal funds. This has no plan for getting them jobs and pulling them out of their financial plight, however. Just a free den to sit about/shoot up in.
Despite having a budget of 1 billion, to get all the homeless off the streets the way they’re doing it would easily cost over 18 billion (max homeless population is around 36000, per unit build prices are around 500k.)
There are about 2.3 million black people in California. I can’t imagine how they can make reparative efforts. No matter what sort of solution you have, it will either sink businesses, a la “extreme affirmative action,” or be a significantly more ineffective version of welfare, which will hemorrhage money out of the state.
This all might be a bunch of nothing, though. They have this commission in place to try and convince the rest of the country with their study on “ways the state might provide reparations,” of which the results will probably be “you can’t,” or “this can’t be done without socialism.”
They’re talking about having support of half of the democratic side of The House in regards to reparations, but good luck to them keeping those numbers when they let their democratic cities exist under siege for months.

Speaking of which I think Turkey should give me reparations. After all, the Ottomans enslaved and traded white people in bigger numbers for way longer than blacks were by the US, but that'd just be lunacy.
