Throughout my teen years and now my adult life, I would laugh at anyone and everyone who said "This Election is the most important one ever!" every four years. I especially laughed at people who said that in 2012. My response was, "Well, whoever wins, let's all give congrats to George Dubya Bush for winning a fourth term." That definitely pissed people off, and I enjoyed pissing people off.

I can't believe it, but this year is totally different. Definitely the most important general election in my lifetime. I can't believe I am saying this unironically now. This year is an absolute shitshow.

I don't know "This Election is the most important one ever!" holds true. It would if the dems get total control of the government. But I think even if the dems win, they're not getting total control of the Government. They'll get one branch. Two at the most if Trump fails to ram his SCOTUS nomination in. The other two will probably stay mostly the same.

Most importantly, I think Trump has changed enough that it'll set back the dem's plans for most of their next term. If he wins a second term, he'll set the dems back by decades. But Even if Biden wins, Trump's supporters aren't going away. They're just gonna get more vocal about Biden/Harris. Even if they win this election, the next one WILL go to a Republican. Because they're gonna fuck shit up enough were even the normies are gonna hate em. And if Harris does take over for Biden, its gonna be a landslide in 2024. She's not likable enough and has too much baggage. Anything she does will be boo'd by Trump's base.

I guess the above is dependent on the GOP not shitting the bed and going back to their old ways. That's up in the air. Even if the GOP shits the bed, I can see Trump's base going off and forming their own party.

E: I guess I'm more focused on Domestic issues. The dems will probably take us back to Obama era international politics. Which means no more America First. This is one of those shitty kind of "damned if you, damned if you don't" situations, and while I would normally advise not to select a replacement this early due to how badly and easily it could backfire on him, not doing so could be even more disastrous for Trump.

Frankly, him selecting someone is much more of his sort of "I don't give a fuck", "high risk, high reward" style that's one of the reasons he even got elected, and managed to accomplish so much, and I think he should give that tactic just one last go.

It's paid off for him so far. Now let's see if it stays that way.

To me, there is no other choice but to move forward with a nomination and have the Senate vote on it before the election. The stakes are far too high to weigh the options, in my opinion.

This election is going to be crazy with voter fraud ... Not to mention the media is already preparing us for the election to be dragged out well beyond Election Day. If it ends up coming down to the SCOTUS to determine the election, I do not want a 4-4 split. That would be a guaranteed Constitutional Crisis, and that should be avoided at all costs.

Don't get me wrong, I am speaking from a Trump supporting (and an anti-Democrat) perspective, so I can't say I have no biases. However, given the current state of things, even if I were convinced that it would hurt Trump to nominate somebody and bring it to a vote ASAP, I would still be highly in favor of doing it in order to prevent an absolute catastrophe of an election.

e: If I was in charge at the DNC, I'd hold on to the news as long as possible. Possibly until December after the votes get locked in. So that Trump has no fucking room to get another nominee. This campaign has been amazing in that the Dems have tried literally nothing other than character assassination / media manipulation to slam the other side. Biden/Harris have no real policy positions; Harris even tried to score cheap points on Biden in the primaries. This will be a great election to measure exactly how much pure negative messaging actually affects the American public.

No matter who wins, people will stay partisan. Independents (like yours truly) may shift as we define our own internal politics and who represents those beliefs, but there will still be a party in decline, and that will either be conservatives (who will return to Obama-era grousing and will try to defend attacks on ‘our identity’) or progressives (who will invent new narratives to explain why progressivism isn’t REALLY unpopular, it’s just the Electoral College / a cabal of fascists / poor education).

The general acting out won’t end until the Left has a strong figure to rally behind. That’s not Biden, but I guess could be Harris, in Clown World. Once the Left has a personality to align behind, they’ll stop acting like brats without leadership, because right now they are literally anarchists. I hope it’s a peacemaker and not a radical.

However there are polls that Carter was leading Reagan but Eagleclaw came at the end and destroyed his administration.

Trump doesn't have some large national or international failure on that level compared to Carter.

Polling is also showing that Trump does not have a Carter or H W Bush situation. Both Bush Sr and Carter had approval ratings in the mid to low 30s. Meanwhile, Trump is at 45 (ironically enough, why the fuck is this number popping up everywhere?)

Trump still has a rock solid floor and still appeals to independents. If he was cratering, his base would be showing major revolt in his approval, which isn't the case.
