I bet there are people in his audience, if only just a few, who have no idea who Jarbo is. If you weren't listening to the KS or following this internet drama for the last 2 years you might not have any idea who Matt is or what his history with the KS is. This , however, presupposes that ER has the ability to generate new audience members, which seems pretty unlikely.

If they don't, they probably just see it as a running joke. They may not know what it means, but they pretend because it's part of the show. They feel like they are part of something.
