What I heard from older gay men those spaces were rotting away anyway. As it turns out sexuality is quite a small part of life and you don't need to segregate from the wider society outside of dating. Older days not only were gay clubs and such the best way to meet someone, it was also protection from actual homophobia and getting beaten up or killed. Place to relax, be yourself and meet people like you. Kinda like any group therapy but larger than average amount of gay sex. As most accepted LGB as wierd but harmless and homosexuality became protected status rather a liability, that last part lost it's meaning. You can be gay and just go to same hobbies, jobs, restaurants, cafes and other happenings as straights without having to hide yourself so why not choose your friends and places to spend time and money according what you like rather than who you like like. Not that homosexuals started to hate each other but there simply is more choices among overwhelming pool of straights. Same sex couples still needed to be formed and it can be nice bitch about frustrating aspects of being same gender loving but those are easier done online. Dating apps and sites will you give wider dating pool than any bar or sauna and airing out frustration can be done in almost any social media platform. There isn't that much market dedicated gay space anymore. Only people who really really want them are those that make everything about being queer and let's face it those tend to be their own worst enemies.
