I may have a theory or two on Russell's receding hairline.
One, his hygiene (or lack thereof). We all know his ability to clean himself and his clothes is nothing short of appalling. Poor hygiene results in hair falling out or breaking off (we can see this with Chris-Chan); his poor hygiene may finally be catching up to him.
Two, stress. A common sign of stress is pulling out hair. Russell has had quite a few reasons in recent months to be that stressed; unable to cope, his lumps may be aching to the point that he's begun tearing his own hair.
Three, hair products. As others have posted, he likely uses Brylcreem or similar products to enhance his "Studliness." He may be using these products incorrectly, resulting in accelerated hair loss.
