The left doesn't want the nuclear family. They want degenercy. They also want to raise everyone's kids so they all grow up to be good little foot soliders for the left. They want the kids of today Brainwashed so they agree to anything you say. They want an easily controllable populous.
Its more than that. They want everyone beholden to the state. No one should be able to survive them not being in power.

tl;dr, The church wanted widows to inherit property (and not get remarried) because overwhelmingly they would bequeath money and lands to the church since the local clergy showed them attention. Naturally male relatives got unhappy when this occurred, so the church simply enshrined the property rights of women to inherit property and do with that property what they wanted.
This was the purpose behind China's "one child" policy. Not "population control", but "control of the population" (well, also the quiet extermination of minorities, but I'm focusing on the bad parts). You have one child - that child is your retirement. No spares (until that one reaches adulthood) so you couldn't let little Hung be a strong-willed rebel. He had to get a good job to support you in your old age. And he'd better fucking not get sent to reeducation or your segment of the family line is now ended. There is extreme society pressure to conform and be a good obedient like commie-cog.
The Democrat plan is the complete destruction of the family as a support system, rending the untermenchen dependent on the state. You never own anything - you can't afford it- you just have your rent-controlled apartment. If your family isn't broken up, you are financially hurt as your neighbors get more gibs. You never need to get a job, you just get your subsistence payout from the government. If you do get a job, your whole family is penalized. If you don't vote for the politician who is increasing the gibs, you run the real risk of being left homeless and destitute.
Its already going on. Think of all the Democrats campaigning on "you can't cut back welfare without killing communities!" When you've reached that point, that's how you know you've been politically bought and no longer have agency.
I 888'd on this before, but Slavery in the US was not built on extracting every ounce of work from a person before they died early from over work. US cotton slavery was built to warehouse labor at the cheapest possible per-unit cost for the couple weeks of cotton harvest. This was system championed and protected by democrats.
