Jersh finally managed to fix his site so i could join and post, and thankfully this posts gives me the starting point to say what i wanted to say 50 pages ago (but couldnt)
Entertainment appeals to two basic instincts/feelings in humans, Desire and Escapism to varying degrees.
Hollywood films are constructed so that you want to be the main character (Desire) and the story would be a fun adventure for you (Escapism).
It is important to know the difference.
The Desire portion of a COD game is beeing the main character, Usually a fit, strong guy that solves problems and saves the day. Typical hero type that everyone want's to be.
The Escapism part is the gameplay. Usually the hero fights in a, war getting shot and shooting people. This is something we do not want to be apart of but we enjoy experiencing it from a safe distance. A large part of that is because it juxtapositions the horrors of the game with the safety and mundane real life we have.
Horror films are a great example of a type of entertainment almost exclusively pandering to the Escapism part. Horrible things happens to people.
I have heard it described as such: Because you life is so ordinary and safe you require entertainment of the opposite to reafirm how good your life really is.
Now porn is an example of a type of entertainment almost exclusively pandering to your desires.
No one watches porn because they want to be the woman or the guy. they watches porn because they want to fuck the people being portraid on screen.
When i watch porn of Elsa jean i don't think "I wonder what it would be like to be her right now", i watch it because i want to fuck her. And when i watch lesbian porn its because i like naked women and now there are more naked women on the screen, and i want to fuck all of them.
