This is the first time I've felt any sympathy for Stacey Abrams. Imagine being invited on TV and getting humiliated like this.
Imagine getting that phone call. I, alone, am going an MSNBC Special with Joe Biden, and having, likely days to think up the appropriate background and look and composure for everything. You look at the calendar and it's suddenly mid-May. Is this it? Am I getting the VP slot? Nobody would tell you beforehand. They know I'd say yes so they'd want my reaction live.
Fast-forward to that clip and Stacey realises this isn't anything more than the insipid ramblings of Joe, who's praise of me invokes fairness in an election that I lost.
Genuinely, fuck optics and ignore the stereotypical behaviour Stacey has come to embrace, if I were Stacey I'd just ask him very plainly; "Which woman of colour is going to be your running mate, Joe?" and then he melts.

Ratings numbers tells me not a lot of people are going to remember Abrams getting embarrassed during a MSNBC appearance, and even DC insiders have started grumbling about Abrams' obvious campaign for the Vice Presidency increasingly resembling a protection racket pitch. It's entirely possible Biden's handlers set her up to check her ego about being able to make trouble if she isn't nominated, but junior staffers wanting to fuck with a politician that's been breaking decorum is equally likely.

It's a media invention, much in the same way Beto O'Rourke's national popularity was. Any Democrat who does better than expected in a red state political race gets a metric fuckton of journalist noses up their bunghole in the ensuing months because the prospect of flipping red states blue is almost more of an obsession among the press than it is among Democrat strategists.
Abrams in particular has refused to concede the election she lost and has been banging on about "muh stolen election" in between her attempts to publicly shake down the Biden campaign for a spot on the ticket, which is apparently the part of her recent political career Biden saw fit to comment on.
...I can't wait to see whatever Abrams' version of Beto's fall from grace is. What's the black female equivalent of watching the next debate from home, in your undies, with a bowl of cereal and new depression beard?

Basically she's extremely offensive to middle America which seems to be what the DNC is going for for some reason.
