Wisconsin Supreme Court blocks governor's effort to delay primary

The Wisconsin Supreme Court on Monday ruled that Gov. Tony Evers (D) cannot delay the state’s presidential primary scheduled for Tuesday, despite fears about the coronavirus pandemic.

The 4-2 court ruling overturned Evers’s emergency order issued earlier Monday calling for the primary to be postponed, after Wisconsin Republicans filed a lawsuit challenging it.

At least two local government leaders as of Monday afternoon have ordered a cancelation of in-person voting, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Of course this is an awful idea and will lead to the death and illness of many Americans.

Anything to murder democrats.

The primary didnt even matter all that kind of mattered here in wisconsin was the state sc. So i dont get why retards went out like this. Also you had months to mail in a ballot. I signed for my grandmas last month.

The areas hit hardest by COVID in Wisconsin, Madison and Milwaukee, almost always go to the Democrat candidate. The state Republicans wanted to keep the election then because they figured that most of the Democrat voters would stay home because they live in the areas hardest hit. Republicans are seriously pure evil.

It did. There was a state supreme court justice seat up for grabs. Republicans want that seat so they can keep doing stupid shit.

Ooooooor, now hear me out, the governor lacked the authority to postpone the election and the Rs weren't cool with just randomly giving new powers to the state executive?

Too many people seem to think that because there is a thing that someone could conceivably do, any part of the government that your party happens to control can not just do it, but also do it by themselves without the other branches being involved.

Madison amd milwaukee are completely different from the rest of my state. The ng was mobilized and they both fucked it up still. People are not going out in droves to vote on the sc. I bet most of the idiots in those lines were there for the primary. Also you could absentee vote like i did almost 2 months ago. The msm wants to paint this as some evil republican scheme instead of the ineptly run democrat shithole that milwaukee has become.

What harm would it be to postpone the election a few months, or extend the deadline for absentee ballots? This isn't normal times, all that not delaying the vote did was cause more people to be exposed to the virus

The danger is you can't put the genie back in the bottle. Once the governor has the power to do it, you'll have to be worried future governors will abuse it. I am not saying this isn't an extraordinary event, but you always have to look past the current situation and weigh the lasting impact of the changes you make now. I'm also not saying it shouldn't have been delayed, just to be cautious about what freedoms you give away in a crisis.

No political party in any country on earth should have the power to unilaterally suspend elections literally the day before. I don’t care if it’s the election for assistant vice undersecretary to the dog catcher. If you want to change election dates, you do it weeks in advance by whatever legal precedents and protocols have been established.

As to absentee ballots...spare me. They were mailed out a month or more in advance and postal routes are still being run. If you’re too exceptional to get your shit filled out and submitted by the deadline, fuck you.

Wisconsinfag here, the only thing that mattered on that ballot is the primary and Bernie already dropped out of the race.

So this whole court battle was pretty pointless as far as political bickering goes.

I disagree. If an asteroid was coming to hit earth and everyone had to bunker down or die, they'd suspend the election (and rightfully so). This is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Instead, they are fine with people potentially getting exposed and dying just to stick it to the libs.

If he had a vote for it a month ago, the Republicans still would've been against it.

Literally comparing an Earth destroying asteroid to a bad virus.

Once in a lifetime, lol.

You know, if the Dems had shown less partisanship for the past 20 years or so, they might have managed to come to some kind of agreement, "hey let's just push this back a month to be fair?" That would've been reasonable.

But instead of admitting that hyper-dividing the political apparatus so that the city vs country demographics ensured a win, and then trying to call it off because of (legit) exigent circumstances when they realize with a shock their usual baked-in win condition is now not going to work? And trying an illegal 11th hour cancellation?

Sour grapes is how I see it.

Enjoy your self-ratfucking. You earned this own-goal.

The last time this kind of thing happened was 100 years ago for the Spanish flu. I'd say that's once in a lifetime.

Pushing the election back, or even just moving the supreme court part to the general election in November, wouldn't be the end of the world. The only reason the Republicans didn't want it is that they want to keep the supreme court tilted towards them

We've had this 3 times in the last decade. If you think this one finally hitting a 100 year metric in terms of awfulness means we aren't going to have to do this again for another century I have a bridge in the Mojave to sell you.

A reminder that the modern left considers racism to be worse than pedophilia and getting the coronavirus. If this law were to pass, they’d demand races to be suspended if their opponent said something mean on Twitter. And they’d do it with the media calling them stunning and brave. Hell, just look at how many tried to curb the second amendment during the pandemic. Never give the left an opportunity to fuck over what little we have left that hasn’t been wrecked or subverted by them.

And the irony is some liberals probably saw the light and buyed guns and ammos. I guess they discovered then some liberals/progressives is a totalitarian screaming to get out".

Lol, equating this to Spanish Flu. Keep watching those headlines and 'models'.

We haven't had to socially isolate three times in the last decade. COVID is way different than the others due to how contagious it is. How many times in the last decade have poll workers had to wear biohazard suits to prevent infection?

Where did you get your medical degree, since you seem to know more than doctors about this?

Do you always talk in extremes? Saying this isn't Spanish Flu all over again is equal to saying you know more than any doctor?

"Republicans are pure evil" "an asteroid crashing into Earth = a virus" "Everyone who supports X is so in so...."
