That all reads like he's a total piece of shit and everyone hates him, but the restaurant management is too afraid to fire him because of Clown World backlash, so they gave him a small raise just to say they did.
Christ, if Clown World ever ends and businesses quit kowtowing to these lunatics, he is fucked.

It sounds like he works in a restaurant? Generally restaurants aren't known for giving raises to the host staff (what I assume this guy is doing). Their "raise" is being promoted to Server.

Restaurants pretty much know that their line cooks will be drug addicts and idiots. Someone more capable will do most of the prep work and the line cook will pretty much just slap shit in a pan. Burn em and Turn em
I have worked with linecooks that couldn't handle the stress and pace of a restaurant. They usually just snap and scream at the wait staff and other cooks.

Andrew "Garbage Day" Miller actually showed up for a little bit during the get-together Lowtax did when he closed his office. Andrew was a much cooler guy than Richard. I have fond memories of when Garbage Day posted an Awful Link of the Day about a furry convention that was planned out to be a straight-up sex party at a family hotel, and the hotel saw the ALOD writeup and was so mortified that they cancelled the convention and called Andrew to apologize.

This one is actually really important. Lowtax is claiming he akways lost money paying front page writers, for 20 years. This means the front page never turned a profit even in the early 2000s, when there was no social media to compete with. The business plan they are pushing now was dead in the water even in 2005 when it was actually viable.

imagine a brand manager not understanding that the point of having a good front page isn't direct monetization where you make back every penny you paid a writer for their article. companies like vice understand that these are loss leaders used to build your brand as a whole. or to put it bluntly, you take a loss on having a good front page to keep your patreon afloat.

That last bit astounds me. How it reads is that Lowtax is too fucking lazy to do any actual editing or quality control and too stingy to pay anyone else to do it for him. Once he's decided a writer is worthy of the front page, he just posts whatever the fuck they publish without looking at it. Kind of like how admins run the modqueue, really.
The result is that it's not actually much of a surprise that this got posted.
Oh, and he's loaded the forums up with intrusive ads before and got angry and defensive when people complained.
