It's funny how almost every major GamerGate figure went through that process.

I think a lot of it is that they just got too full of themselves. They forgot that they didn't really put themselves in the limelight with anything particularly meritorious, but rather were placed there because people whom agreed with them on a variety of things put them there. They started seeing their fan base as a bunch of mindless groupies, which would follow them no matter what, so rather than trying to argue their various unpopular opinions, they took an attitude of superiority and expected everyone just to blindly agree with them.

This is the same reason Hollywood is suffering, once you become too familiar with a person the less credible they seem(except for James Woods).
In Hollywood knowing about the political positions and vegan diet of an actor can spoil the roles they play.
On YouTube knowing too much about their personal life again spoils their content.
For June (with me at least) the line was finding out she wears wigs because she pulls her own hair out.

Thats true. You'd be surprised how hard it was to find info on celebrities pre-twitter. If they werent shilling a movie you never heard from them and you wouldnt get photos of them outside of staged paparazzi pics.
Plus in the 2010s entertainment companies started using social media profiles as part of their q-scores (SeeD ranks for celebrities, basically determines if you can get cast in roles and how much you'll be paid) so unless you want to retire or only stick to indies and direct-to-dvd films you need a social media account and the bigger following and engagement the better. Like if you want to be a runway model now, you have to have a following now instead of any actual "talent" before they even consider you.
Lots of the older people in the entertainment industry (35+) are complaining about it because like most adults they dont want to tweet about their latest bowel movement or take a picture of every meal they ate. Or put every little idea they have in their head online. But they also want to not starve so they instead are essentially forced into it, which is probably why you see a huge rise in political posting too, i mean think about how often people talk about politics and current events despite being fucking idiots and compound that with not having weather as a go-to topic. Plus some of these people have been in entertainment all their lives, they cant really switch careers. Its not like Kristen Dunst could work at whole foods.
