Either that art teacher never graduated from finger paints and stick figures, or they're trolling and trying to clear the field for genuinely talented artists.

chances are the art teacher got that price by asking her how many hours she tends to spend on a drawing and putting that through minimum wage, this is normal.
The teacher is probably a bit older and isn't accounting for the garbage heap that is the online art commission marketplace

But she's claiming the teacher said $80-$100 an hour, not normal minimum wage. Though I can believe she misunderstood the teacher, or they misspoke. Either way it's outrageous prices you only hear from hyper detailed furry and porn artists. Hence why she has just enough self-awareness to know she can't get away with those prices, but not enough to realize it's bullshit and she's not actually worth that much.

Commissioned artists very rarely work by the hour. Plus, even professional artists hired by comic and cartoon studios don’t tend to make that type of change.

For fucks sake, if Butch Hartman, a well known artist charges like $200 full colored hand drawn illustration, what makes her think she’s even worth close to $80 an hour?

Note to anyone ever considering hiring a freelance artist, never pay by the hour, pay by the piece. If you pay by the hour, The artist will fuck around as much as possible to scam you. This always happens

Sooo... who else is Enter going to throw his money at to draw his story now? I'm guessing this person isnt going to draw for him anymore unless he spends half a grand each image.

Was gonna say an hour per commission sounds like a load of shit.

I've commissioned artwork for characters that is usually around the ball park of $70 and that's a full colorized picture with features and is usually about a couple hours of work. Which when that happens the artist is handling multiple ones at the same time and alternates between them. Charging hourly means you could be charged for 4 hours but your art honestly only takes just 1-2 to complete. That's a shady business model.

Been lurking for a while, didn't have much to contribute until the commission price sperging.

One possible way in which she can charge "per hour" is by knowing well enough how long a drawing of such and such requirements would take her if done in one sitting. If she knows her timing and, say, one full-body character with no background and average detail always takes her roughly 1 hour, then she charges for that single hour and it doesn't matter if she indeed delivers within that time frame or the next weekend. The customer paid for what would be one hour of uninterrupted work.

I'm not going to rag on the quality of her work, that's up to the people with the money to decide how much it's worth to them. But if she expects people to pay upon delivery and take her word for how long it took her, then she's insane.

I mean, has Ava actually drawn anything for Enter since the Hammerspace crossover? As far as I've seen lately, Kamink does most of the legwork already.

Speaking of Kamink, this was all I could find about her commission prices. They're slightly more expensive than Ava was before, but a ton less expensive than Ava is today. If Ava was gonna do any work for Enter in the future, it ain't happening now.

And really, any artist associated with Mr. Enter should know better than to price their work as if they were fucking Disney. "My cartoon's worth $350,000!" "We'll give you $10,000. What can you do with that?" "Literally nothing! I reject your generous donations!"

Honestly, I'm not particularly fond of the idea of hourly rates for art commissions, especially if it takes an artist a rather long time to complete a piece. I suppose it's okay if the artist knows the average time it takes them to complete a commission and/or their turnaround is fairly fast. Otherwise, it'd be just unfair for the client to be paying hundreds and hundreds of hours worth of money for the artist who's taking their sweet time. It's borderline scam.

Flat rate is the way to go in my opinion.

^I think hourly rate is more suited to more experienced artists who use their time efficiently, and artist who are making actual, physical work.
I've ran into a lot of kids who go all "so I wan't to price by the hour but like, it takes me 30 hours to finish a drawing?????" and their 30 hour drawing just isn't worth even minimum wage for those hours.
If you want to price yourself like a pro you have to meet pro standards mang.

Looking through their gallery and I like their work - other than that Eagle's camp thing from GA. I can tell they had to go by Enter's pickiness on this one because it doesn't look anything like their other works. It's an eyesore in their gallery.

Edit: Okay, ANYTHING GA related looks like an eyesore.

Honestly, this bothers me because anything NOT GA related looks way better than the artwork they made for GA. You can tell Enter had a specific touch to the GA artwork and there wasn't much creative freedom involved.

The thing is, almost no artist does a n hourly rate. I have plenty of artist friends with degrees from those pompous “prestige” school in San Francisco and whatever. People who have shit in museums and stuff. Their commissions work on a set price based on the job. They ask for half up front, and then the other half to finish the work after you evaluate and approve the rough.

professionals in studios are usually paid a standard rate and work in regular workdays 9-5 etc. Or, they’re on salary so they can work pretty much forever for the same monthly pay.
I don’t know how old this girl is, or what her delusions are, but she will never make 80-90 an hour

Semi-related: I found Ava's YouTube channel. Nearly everything she uploads is one take and face-cam. Shown below is her only video about "Growing Around."

Yeah, she's definitely the "special snowflake" type.

Looks like she's still working with Enter after all. And turns out they're making new characters for ANOTHER SHOW. I'm... actually okay with that. If he's never gonna finish anything anyway, I'd rather him focus on a bunch of smaller projects than keep making one project bigger and bigger.

Why he doesn’t just fund several webcomics is beyond me. Standards are lower and he already commissioned a shit ton of art. Plus it would be a lot cheaper and more effective at audience building than the script thing
