Assuming this is from AITA, the comments were probably full of people calling OP the asshole. But it's absurd to expect someone to call their father anything other than "dad" (or some variation)-- it's literally one of the first things most people learn to say.
Also, context clues seem to indicate that the dad not only lost custody but was out of contact with his kids up until four months ago. He's been a troon for two years, but his kids only just found out? Yeah, this guy isn't in the picture much, seemingly by choice if he's still able to invite them to dinner.
Why the fuck would someone who cuts their kids off like that think that he's now entitled to ask them for favors? Additionally, why would this person who ollied out of his kids' lives two years ago think that he deserves to share a label with the parent that actually took care of them?
As you well shouldn't. I know several troons irl on account of currently attending college in a liberal city. People are generally polite to them in the same way people are superficially kind to the mentally disabled.
There's one person I know that I might have mentioned before that thinks he's popular and hot shit because everyone's nice to him, but if you watch how other people interact with him it's super obvious that they view him as a charity case. He dresses like a thrift store threw up on him and he's got a ratty jewfro that he attempts to make feminine by putting on a headband. There are several girls who hang out with him because they like having a makeover project, and one of them is so oblivious to the fact that he's creeping on her.
He calls me by my first name and "honey" even though I've literally never introduced myself to him. He doesn't even go to the same college as me.

It's here and yes it's in AITA. Thankfully though they are by and large declared to not be the asshole because normal people browsing AITA have sense. Obviously locked now but it's actually an interesting read because even the people who're like trying so hard to see the troon side- their posts have this tone that says this is a chip off their 'acceptance' and 'progressive' beliefs because the asshole in this case is 100% the troon. This idea that they want to be called 'mom' when they've done none of the work and are the cause of the destruction of a relationship as well not considering the emotional well being of their children, it's an easy way to peak trans a whole lotta people.

If you waved a magic wand that could turn troons into real women, 99% of them would hate it. The 1% -- who may actually have real gender dysphoria might be happy -- but the rest of them would not want that no matter how much they claim it.
