There is another aspect to GRS, though, and it's aesthetics. Tissues that go into the body aren't needed to look good or "convincing". Just functional is fine (like the stomach after a gastric sleeve or a gastric bypass operation to use an elective surgery as an example).

My city has a whole bunch, too - big college town too. Our entire Pride has basically become "Troon and Drag Queen Day", literally has no events or anything to do with anybody else. They do a lot of fundraising for troons who can't get jobs because of their refusal to wash themselves and dress appropriately "transphobia". Our local online communities are full of "parents of trans children" aka child abusers asking what schools to send their victims to, troons asking what doctors will prescribe them drugs with the least fuss, etc. That said, I'm surprised I don't see more of them out and about... I see them at the mall sometimes if I desire death enough to go there - their atrocious dress sense, shitty wigs and linebacker builds make them stand out - but I've never, say, run into one in the supermarket. Probably because they're all shut-ins who only emerge from their basement lairs during Pride week.

Quite the same for me, I am in a college town too in one of the biggest city of my country and since I am involved in the cosplay community of this town I see many and many of these around and when it is not during a con it is generally when I have to do things around the city during the pride week.

I suspect a lot of crossover between r9k/blackpill/NEET types and trans culture. A lot of NEETs or similar losers have a misguided nostalgia for being a kid and teenager. It's not that high school was fun, it's just that they were allowed to not have a job, play vidya and watch anime without the pressures of paying bills. It's all about their failure to be a functioning adult.
By their mid-20s, they are filled with self-loathing, regret, and years of porn. Reinventing themselves as a girl sounds logical to them. They now have a goal (though the goalposts keep moving). They find a supportive community. They are politically topical and receive lots of attention they would never get as cis males. Hell, some of them even rave about how glad they are that now they can cry on others' shoulders and get support for their depression because girls are "allowed" to do that.

There's probably a huge psychological analysis that can be done on the connection of troonery and peter pan syndrome. The hatred of natural puberty, the mourning for what they perceive as a wasted youth, a longing to be small and cute, the infantilizing online culture. it's always stuck out to me.

If I may explore further...
The failure of the youth-in-question to socialize with either sex leads to fetishizing the opposite sex and loathing the sex of their birth (internalized rejection). This all took place in their socially-formative years (adolescence), resulting in stunted sexual growth. Analogous to a lack of nutritional requirements during adolescence.
There. I just made a point more salient than 99% of any troon community. Now I can write a book and go on Dr, Phil.

Even though this is edited to look more "appealing," it still looks like a deflated scrotum to me.

This is so terrible, it's like the inverse of a good Photoshop job. Instead of it being so good that I can't tell what's fake, it's so bad that I can't tell what's real. It's just the uncanny valley dial turned up to 11.

Also, the photography on these images reminds me so much of internet shock images. It's indescribably surreal how the people who post this imagery now do so to impress rather than disgust.

Because authority is no longer valued. Parents are no longer guides; they have been repeatedly told by child psychologists that if they lay down rules, they will "stifle the kids' creativity and ravage their self-esteem", and this is said to be a very, very bad thing. Parents are told they should be their kids' friends, to listen to them and give them unconditional support. So if your girl says she is really a boy, all parents can say is "yes, yes, my little prince, we love you always no matter what you are!" To do otherwise is to drive her to suicide -- and "would you rather have a living son or a dead daughter"?!
