Her parents found out and forbid the relationship. Greg apparently had Lainey so snowed that she forgot how to count. He told a 4 year ago gap was legal; he is 7.5 years older than her. Lainey's dad spooked Greg back to Washington for a few months... until she started college and turned 18 (my bad before, they paid for tuition and housing in New Mexico, not Washington.)
Greg came lurking back as soon as Lainey was supposed to begin college and had her knocked up within months of her 18th bday, when he took her to Washington state.

Edit: here's a clearer shot of Sarah talking about how Kai fantasized about living with her once Greg finally dumps her for good. Kai sees the writing on the wall but won't leave until Greg tells her to.

Greg is
nine years older than her, no doubt about that, and I was aware that Taylor's dad scared him away for a while.
They began officially dating in 2012, a few days after Taylor had turned 18, but he had proposed to her as early as March of that year (mind that the Shiloh abortion scandal happened in December 2011, and by January 2012 he was still sending her money to come back to him).
Taylor was branded with a tattoo in October, and then married by law in November. Her parents didn't know any of this, thought she was in college, and kept paying for the tuition for
months. The pictures of their fake wedding, with Taylor wearing the dress Greg destroyed and with her hair combed into a travesty, are from April 2013, from a ceremony they had for their families.
Considering Troy was born around December of that same year, it's very likely she was already pregnant there, way before she turned 19.
I'm not sure about when they found out their oldest daughter wasn't at school but with a psycho, though.
It's really sad on Taylor's part to not push harder to see her family in the first place. I get that Greg brainwashed her but some bonds can never be broken. Lots of kids grow up with spouses that don't care for their in-laws but the bond between parent and child still manages to thrive regardless, especially when grandkids enter the picture. I get the impression that Taylor's family genuinely loves her and wants the best for her and most of this is all Greg being a difficult manipulator pulling the strings.
But in Taylor's case, I'd be damned if some greasy abusive jackhole tried to pry me apart from the family that loved and raised me. Just because you start a new family does not mean abandoning the old one. Spouses and kids become an extension of your family, not a replacement. Thanks to Greg, Taylor most likely is perma-stunted into a rebellious teen that hates living by daddy's rules, thus keeping her away from her parents and deeper into Greg's clutches.
Mh, I wouldn't know about that.
There are victims of rapists that become rapists themselves. Think of kids that were abused and become abusive parents... they take their anger out on their children, as if hurting someone else can make years of violence disappear. They feel like they're getting the revenge they deserve but on people that have nothing to do with them.
Also, Taylor was
already a fan of Greg, when he began grooming her good, and he has always been very vocal about the fact that, if two people get married and
genuinely love each other, they have to let go even their families. Of course, the idea isn't applicable to him, as Crazy Tammy followed him for his entire life, but still...
Taylor's parents tried to do their best to protect their daughter, but she had already been thoroughly brainwashed.
