Speaking of general furry drama.

Was anyone believing this sicko's bullshit story? It's about as believable as covering yourself in napalm to warm up from a winter chill. He just deleted his account in the last hour or so.

This does not surprise me. He is going through a major episode of grief. When he was taking the situation so positively at the beginning, I had a feeling it was the Denial stage of grief. It was only a matter of time before Depression and Anger reared their ugly heads. He's got a long road ahead of him, and I hope to god we don't see a suicide attempt.

I'm shocked that no one was talking about the furry who got his hands amputated a few days ago because he wanted paws.

Sounds more appropriate for the furry personal lolcows thread tbh. We have an otherkin thread as well, but it hasn’t seen much action lately because otherkin seem to be a thing from the last couple generations of furries. Nowadays it’s troons.

Pretty much this. Although otherkin as a whole didn't start in the furry fandom, it was popular there for a while back in the 2000's.

Otherkin as a whole sort of went through different generations starting with the Faerie Wiccan and vampire cults of the 90's before moving onto furries in the 2000's and Tumblr SJW's in the 2010's.

Yeah, troons pretty much are the main thing among furries these days.

Makes sense, since being a trender is pretty much a more socially acceptable form of otherkin.

Otherkin are so irrelevant that trannies feel like the attack helicopter joke is satirizing them and not the "I am a wolf" types common in the 2000s and early 2010s.

In all seriousness my theory about otherkin is that they eventually evolved into or gave way to headmates/plurals (deep down inside I'm a fictional character) and genderspecials/transtrenders (deep down inside I'm a girl). Both of these net more social capital in society where companies will bend over backwards to anyone with a disability while otherkin have always been laughed at. There also used to be a common 00s/10s fandom stereotype about how lifestylers would pretend they were animals IRL. That's faded out, but being a transtrender is trendy as hell right now.

Case in point: this work of furry art, depicting a generic fursona in the mirror seeing itself with boobs. Unsurprisingly the furry who commissioned this is a mtf furry techie, probably one of the most common archetypes in the fandom these days.

Anyone who has any knowledge of the otherkin scene can see parallels to the famous mirror image.

lol the female one has a bigger budge

I sometimes wonder why there aren't more of these 'if you hate furries you're everything from a bigot to a social degenerate' posts. Oh, yes, it's because these posts are always silly and hypocritical, especially when furries say repeatedly 'don't generalise the entire fandom just because it turns a blind eye to pedophilla and zoophilia' while generalising everybody who hates furries as scum of the highest order.

though this post gave me a good chuckle because of the implication that there are no furries who are also "scrub competitive gamers" and "anime weebs". And they truly are the lowest of the social hierarchy. Purely because of the 'furry' part, of course.

wasn't this the same person who attacked a cop cosplayer at a furry convention and then rallied up an army on twitter to make him feel like he did the right thing

He also stanned Tacklebawks well into the pedo and cub art allegations and quietly ducked out of the conversation when it all turned out to be true. He calls himself a "furry influencer" and boasts of stories of younger black furries coming up to him at conventions and personally thanking him for his representation. Also, being that Tacklebawks is a lilly white Canadian milquetoast who built name recognition on appropriating popular black hip hop culture in his work, Magno was dumb enough to fall for it.

This would be a really on point example of a furry clout chaser.

Just about every "furry influencer" in the fandom is completely devoid of common sense, and usually, some level of insolent. I left the fandom to rot a long time ago, and so have most of my friends and other people I talk to. It's not worth being part of a community where everyone throws shit at you over the smallest of slights.

Otherkins have been around for a stupidly long time, and I know a lot of them actually don't enjoy being compared to furries (despite the massive overlap in communities) - As to them, therianism and otherkin is much more 'deeper' and spiritual than furry. It's funny even now seeing the cartoon self-identifying folk latching onto anime characters and saying 'this is me!'. It's a far stretch from the old kins.

I used to frequent a now defunct site called Monstrous.com back in the earlier days of the internet, since I had a huge interest in horror, and the site was a gigantic hub of oldschool Angelfire-esque info for movie monsters, mythological creatures, paranormal stuff etc. It was pretty damn cool and I still miss it.

Monstrous had a forum back then. I went on and saw right away it was full of people who were utterly convinced they were real life werewolves, psi and blood vamps, elves, all that stuff. They had so many little cliques and typed like High-lit roleplayers, but they were deadly serious. Those are definitely the most common otherkins out there. A lot of it is definitely more 'nature' based - Elves, fae, deer, things like that. It feels like a hippie love of nature and animals, and people who try to dabble with crude modern renditions of shamanism and lucid dreaming.

They're all just a bunch of degenerates and perverts but therians and otherkin are hipsters who think they're better than the other degenerates so they're much worse. There's nothing that can't be made worse by being a fucking hipster about it.
