The media was too soft on Obama during his presidency. If Obama had the level of scrutiny against him from the media the way Trump does, he would not have been as popular. The worship for Obama is only for the most superficial traits. It also helps that every possible misstep made by Obama was swiftly memoryholed by the media and any criticism was racist. This probably isn't a great explanation because I haven't read about this stuff in ages, but it reminds me a lot of Nietzsche's slave morality. The woke brigade look at the world and see the most successful people as bold, ambitious, risk-taking high-achievers.
