As much as I like the tactical vomit slapstick hilarity, it's nice to see him finding some meds that might work.

Also I checked with my roommate, he ranks lorazepam as "definitely more addictive" than your average benzo, and that 3mg is a lot, and when he was in he was being given 1mg and got way hooked. Like, going up to the counter to see if it was time for meds yet and faking anxiety to get more.
 
Ativan is actually one of the less recreational of the benzos, pill poppers tend to go for Xanax or Valium. 3mg is still a lot of Ativan for the average person but for Jace, well, you know.

Yeah, I can imagine the doctors felt very justified in giving him a high dose after seeing how fucking crazy he could be. We're very, very lucky he didn't go full STRYKER in the hospital and get put on involuntary psych hold.

It wasn't as bad as some calls but better than others. The best part was him calling you his "bestest internet friend ever!" and then canceling the call as you were rebuking that claim.

I know little to nothing about these drugs. What kind of changes could we possibly see 6 weeks down the road if Jace continued to take them properly? Obviously tactical puking would be gone. Would it still be the same commander we loved, just with fewer chimpouts, or do these drugs have the possibility of radically changing his personality?

Doctors don't like to prescribe benzodiazepines long-term because they are very addictive and, like alcohol, withdrawal can be fatal. If Jace were to take them as directed he'd pretty much be the same but wouldn't chimp out as much. The ER doc gave him a one time prescription because of the crash and after he runs out of pills Jace will be back to his spastic self.

That actually explains a shitload about his recent coherency and ability to write blog posts that are readable and look like a human with a brain wrote them. Shame it won't last, I enjoy the occasional moments of lucidity he used to have way back in the VLOG-ust era before he went completely off his rocker. This is the first time I've seen one of those introspective/lucid moments from him in months, they're getting much less common.
 
Yeah, I've taken Benzo's before for "reasons" and they pretty much make you super chill and just not give a fuck about anything. If Jace could be trusted with a prescription long term and took one whenever he felt a STRIKER bout coming on he would be the same old Jace without the peeks and valleys.

See, for Jace it seems like his low spots are direct results of coming down from a Commander Striker episode, as opposed to being a result of bi-polar or something. If he could get Striker under control he would probably have a lot of other stuff follow on.

Jace's real problem is his "take all the drugs!" method that would almost undoubtedly lead to him going on a bender and taking an entire bottle of benzos if he liked them. Tolerance builds fast with those things too and they can only give you so much in a month, I could see Jace getting basically Immune to them at some point if he didn't take them right.

TL;DR a xanax prescription would probably rely help Jace but he's probably too much of a junky to handle it.

yeah is there something that isn't that addictive but has these good effects?
 
The War Library's got backups up as well for these streams, if anyone wants to check them out. Take special notice of the first part where Jace's brain gets stuck and he keeps saying things like "BABABABABABARBARIAN".

@lynx, I think I'm going to splice your footage with mine since you've got a couple parts I've missed, and vice versa.

I think it would almost be the opposite. Jace likes becoming STRYKER, and usually purposefully stops taking his meds to experience it. He mentioned in his last stream he honestly believes he thinks more lucidly when he's off his medication (when quite in fact the opposite is true).

My guess? When he's off his meds he believes he's thinking "faster." Not faster in truth, but he mentions that he starts making connections and things begin to fall in line. We also see he speaks or raps INSANELY FAST when he's not medicated. I don't know in depth the symptoms of schizophrenia, but more likely than not these "details lining up in place and all these new ideas rushing in" are due to that. As previously mentioned, he likes that. He enjoys that feeling. That is the dangerous part. Its also surprisingly common and not something unique to Jace. I've read with schizophrenics, and most usually end up not taking their medications so they can "think clearly" or "feel like themselves" or the like.

Less his junkie habits, I think the real difficulty would be trying to get Jace to understand (and believe) why staying on his medication is better for him in the long run.
 
It's hard to make schizophrenics take their medication because many antipsychotics have terrible side effects like making you feel like a braindead zombie or gain weight or whatnot. Couple that with the fact that many of them don't believe they are actually mentally ill at all, they just "see the connections" better than normal people.
 
@Sammy it could be. It's hard to tell with Jace sometimes. Benzos are fun so I could see a repeat of the "entire bottle of ADD medecin" incident but at the same time you're right that he does like his Striker episodes. I guess the hope would be that the benzos let the striker events happen, but with less fallout.
