It is quite gratifying to see the pitiful Mr Smith goes to Washington LARPing finally coming to an end.
Shame it took half a century for conservatives to realize that dealing honestly and fairly with fundamentally dishonest and cruel people is a good way to share the fate of Ned Stark.
I think the defining example of this was when Reagan gave amnesty to illegals back in 1986.
The agreement being that there would be reform of border security and the immigration system, gee now why does that sound familiar?
Of course the Dems did no such thing and said "Thanks for the new voters dumbass!" and went on their merry way.
California used to be a Red State. Only took six years for that to go away forever after the amnesty.
Amazingly enough until Trump prominent Republicans were totally down with amnesty, because the problem was never fixed in the first place, presumably fine with losing Texas the same way they did California.

It took way too long for the average republican to figure out that humility doesn’t mean being a fucking doormat. It would have been a lot better if the US had two actual political parties instead of one and one to serve as a punching bag. That last point likely accounts for their willingness to unperson people at the drop of a hat and generally be complete dicks to anyone not "on the right side of history". They know that the ideas they put forward are not the objective truth because they don't believe in objective truth, which means that they don't rate their chances of converting people very highly . He should also be in favor of nuclear energy as an alternative to fossil fuels. The GND relies on electric and solar energy, both of which still require backing by fossil fuels to work. This isn’t even mentioning the harmful mining techniques used to create solar panels. Finally, because of the weak alternatives to fossil fuel and threatening of job losses for those that work in coal and oil industries, he can say goodbye to getting rust belt voters.
