For the benefit of folks who don't have the stamina to read thousands of messages on the topic, here's basically what's happened, as I understand it:
- LGBTQetc. activists organized an All-Bodies Swim at a public pool in the City of Langley scheduled for July 2019, for youths aged 12-24. This event has been going on for years, and appears to be a seriously misguided yet fundamentally well-intentioned attempt to promote tolerance and awareness and what-have-you. Jonathan Yaniv has absolutely no association with this event up to this point, as far as I can tell.
- In Canada (or perhaps just British Columbia, I'm not sure and can't be arsed to double-check), localities cannot require women to cover their breasts in public. Therefore, the All-Bodies Swim is under the law a tops-optional event.
- Nevertheless, the temporal and geographical proximity of this event to Yaniv's fuckery caused conservative social media to pick it up, and the resulting outcry prompted the organizers to cancel the event.
- Yaniv, being Yaniv, decides this is yet another hill to die on, and announces that he would be getting the event restarted, but without the upper age limit (i.e., in a way that would allow the 30-something Yaniv to creep on teenage girls in the locker room, which would not have been allowed at the event as originally planned).
- Everyone goes apeshit, because fuck this pedo piece of shit.
- The original organizers of the event, being relatively normal human beings, want nothing to do with Yaniv and disavow his involvement.
- Yaniv presents his proposal at a council meeting of the Township of Langley, which is legally distinct from the City of Langley for reasons that are far too boring to go into here. The township council, wise souls all, vote to punt any consideration of the question into September, at which point summer is basically over in the Pacific Northwest and therefore nothing will happen from a practical perspective until next spring at the very least.
Please supplement with any important details I've forgotten or otherwise omitted.
