🎨 Artcow Michael John Kricfalusi / John Kricfalusi / John K. / John K. Stuff / Raymond Spum - scammer animator who pissed away his own career, salty blogger, CONFIRMED predator and child rapist

I think as time went on and the more he started deluding himself with "animation is more important than story and the story should be made up by the animators", the worse he got.

OG Ren and Stimpy episode Fire Dogs was written and directed singlehandedly by John (although not animated singlehandedly) and yeah you could say "muh executive meddling", and it's one of the finest of the show...not really because of animation, but because it was fucking well-written. It was a simple episode with good gags and good jokes (CIRCUS MIDGETS and No sir, I didn't like it, for example) John K. is good at cartoon writing...when he focuses on it. I personally don't remember Ren and Stimpy for the animation, I remember it for the lines. The lines were fucking hilarious, but the animation adds to the greatness of the lines. That's why scenes like this work:

The animation and the writing combine together to make a great joke. Boom. I think John getting kicked off of Ren and Stimpy kind of took a toll on him psychologically though. Note that most of John's lolcow behavior didn't come until the late 90's/early 2000's.

Well, it's great for an episode that was improvised in an afternoon. But he didn't really write it. The storyboard artists, Jim Smith and Chris Reccardi, did - they took the outline for the episode and fleshed it out.

That's just when it became more public. Yeah, being removed from Ren & Stimpy exacerbated things, but if he hadn't been a lolcow in the first place, he wouldn't have been fired. Only difference back then was he could talk up a big game and didn't have the litany of post-R&S failures to prove him otherwise.

Why did he get taken off the show, after all? Did you ever hear of how one guy told him he was going to go work at Games Animation and John pushed him down the stairs?

But thank goodness Eddie Fitzgerald's hand stayed clean.

It was made over several years. I doubt she did all that much.

The general reaction on the Internet, needless to say, is little different from the responses here. But one person offered a pretty good summary of it - what you see in this cartoon is unfiltered John, without any other cartoonists to help him by putting jokes and characterization amongst the daddy issues and spastic animation, lost in his own self-referential jokes and completely unmoored to any plane of reality.

Also, one of the bonus features on the DVD is John’s idea for this supposed R&S short that would have gone before the third SpongeBob film. Here it is:
Cancelled short is shockingly decent, probably because Nick oversaw it

Not even the industry professionals were impressed by John K.'s output. That's really saying something. (Apologies for not archiving -- I've been having troubles at the moment.)

I didn't know Donald Duck had a twitter account. lol

Yeah, I can agree with these guys. The film fucking sucks even without the context of him being a pedo. OOF! If it were a porno on the other hand.......................

Nah! That wouldn't save the film either.

Also,

Did your job for you. *hugs*

It took him almost a decade to make this pos.
Nice scam, John.
There's no way I'm willing to believe that it actually took him a decade of man hours, with other people's help no less, to get this thing pushed out of his ass. He most likely abandoned it near the start and kept coming back to it periodically whenever he didn't have commission work from Fox and Adult Swim to blow his time on and he kept this on the back burner as a reserve in case he were ever in trouble. It's obvious he was using software to animate CWL, largely because he very obviously over relies on symbols in his work, which would explain why features of George's face shrink during the opening shot, something he could've avoided with one simple change: if he highlighted all of his facial features at once before shrinking the character. Same goes for the walk cycles and how George outpaces the background on his way to the bathroom.

This short is a prime example of the laziest, shortcut taking animator you could find, and his name is Michael John Kricfalusi. I remember when I first saw the cobbled draft version and I thought the 3D elements were just supposed to be stand-ins for actual background work, but no, he left it in because leaving things on the cutting room floor is wasteful, or some variant excuse thereof.

I also noticed he animated the whole thing on twos in spite of regarding himself as an animation pioneer and savior, on a project which he had full funding and oversight. This is what happens when you drink all your talent away.

I didn't hate it as much as everyone else, but the 2d and 3d didn't blend at all and it didn't have any jokes, just a bunch of goofy expressions and weirdly out of place swearing.

John K depresses the hell out of me, so much talent pissed away, he could have been huge, if only he had managed to be less of a colossal shithead.

But oh well, I liked R&S as a kid but Rocko was more my style, as it was similar but less genuinely disturbing, more fun.

Well, that was just terrible. Was there any reason for the cans to be 3D?
Did you see how half assed the actual animation was? It's because he didn't want to bother with actually drawing them.
(this isn't 3D, John, you don't need to make every character move every single frame)
Are you kidding? The characters hardly move at all. Are you actually suggesting he should do a worse job and that his work is above average?

I don't see the problem. TV animation is generally on twos.

Also, video's gone. John apparently caught on to the mockery.
