Fresh off of the GG reddit. They found BJ Hensley's original statement from 2 years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAc...gaming_more_harassment_claims_in_the/dowyzlt/

From a discussion about all this happening last year: https://www.reddit.com/r/KotakuInAc...abletop_gaming_more_harassment_claims_in_the/

This is the image in question:

The person who complained about Bill Webb's actions at PaizoCon? She changed her story once the SJWs got to her.

Let me repeat that: BJ Hensley changed her statement after some mean girl clique (Jessica Price et all) got ahold of her.

Also, apparently, the "Paizo Employee got hurt" might be a lie that Price et all made up for sympathy and to attack Webb with.

Here's her original private statement to another FGG executive:

Said employe replied "no worries" and she replies:

She was more upset that Bill Webb was openly apologetic than what happened. She only became "scared" of him "stalking" her later, after she forced FGG to remove the above image, after the mean girl clique got their claws into her.

Ignored, again.

Sorry man. I'll move to the proper thread shortly. I just thought that was... interesting, and wanted to make sure those interested over here saw it.

No prob. All I am saying is that we should at least make things easier for @emspex as she is the one who probably is going to end up tard wrangling non-WW posts. It's dog-eat-dog world out there (yes, that is in reference to her dog avatars).

Here's a question.

The GG subreddit used to organize email campaigns against advertisers. "Hey, just thought you would like to know that Kotaku did X Y and Z."

This was basically GamerGate doing what Flush Rush and the Alt-Left do to Rush Limbaugh and Tucker Carlson -- and it pissed Reddit off so much that they made special rules to prevent GamerGate from doing it. We cost Gawker millions of dollars in Ad Revenue, and primed them for Hulk Hogan's lawsuit to take them out later on by bleeding them dry.

... But was it Tort Interference?

In general, no. Boycotts are privileged First Amendment protected activity and if these idiots had stuck to protected activity, they wouldn't be in court now. You're allowed not to buy someone's products because you don't like where they're advertising, and you're allowed to tell the advertiser why you're doing that.

I say "in general" because I'm sure someone, somewhere, went over the line in some way they could be sued for, but I can't think of anyone offhand. Boycotts are an effective and entirely legal strategy of expressing consumer disapproval of how a company is doing business, and have a long history of being used by both the left and right.

Ah, but is it still a boycott when you're contacting one side of things and telling them flat out that you are boycotting them and why? Or suggesting if they want to stop the boycott they had better do X Y or Z?

It depends who you are and why you're doing it.

If you're a consumer group that doesn't approve of, say, the Smothers Brothers comedy hour because you're a Christian fundamentalist and feel it's immoral, and want it off the air, and boycott Kimberly-Clark and other advertisers on the show if they continue to advertise there, to deprive the network of advertising income so they cancel the show, that may be reprehensible, but it's protected activity.

If you yourself have a contract with a convention, like Kamehacon, and threaten to illegally breach your own contract with the convention unless the convention illegally breaches its contract with the plaintiff, that's not protected.

If you are the agent of a media outlet like Mark Waid is to Marvel, in direct competition with another smaller publisher, and you bump off your competition by threatening the smaller publisher unless they illegally breach their contract, that's not protected.

To pick a non-weeb example, if you take the Smothers Brothers example, but instead of a citizen's group, it's a fake grassroots group paid by a competing network to damage the other network, that's unfair competition and you'll find yourself in court.

I know people think it's too optimistic to think this is some kind of breaking point, but I believe it's at least leading up to one. Between Meyer Vs Waid and Ty Beard representing Todd Harberkorn, Bill Webb, and Vic Mignogna, someone who had texts to prove the rape allegations were false, someone in the tabletop game industry, and someone in the American anime VA industry respectively, I think this is the starting line of a long process that will gradually show the wider audiences how deranged and crazy all these fucks are. I mean, with Bill Webb we're already seeing another company taking advice and actually lawyering up, and with the lawyer who's already handling this kind of mess.

I wouldn't be surprised if Ty becomes a known go-to lawyer for this kind of false allegations shit in the geeky/anime fandoms. It'll be a long process, but I feel it will have an impact for the better.

They could make this sort of case their bread and butter, I think the Farms would continue to gleefully feed them discovery at a rate that'd make a paralegal blush.

Their bread and butter is protecting obscenely rich people from stupidity, often involving their offspring. It’s a good niche. I think they like the Weeb Wars because it is something new, different and unexplored.

How meta. SA is watching us watching them.

Should also be noted that we are not their personal army. Interests and amusement aligned here but they won't always.

Nope. Or rather not likely. You were the consumer. Not a competitor or someone within the industry or someone with influence over the industry. Much like with the Gillette emasculation ad consumers can voice their opinion. The only direct impact they have it their individual purchase. No Gamergaters was telling nVidia “you’ll never work in this town again.” Part of the thing with Tortious Interference is you need to be in a position to actually influence one party to the contract. Ie “Marvel Comic’s Mark Waid calling a teeny tiny indie publisher” and having a conversation so frightening that they were fearful that any of their contract contributors would be blacklisted by Marvel just for associating with them.

tbh I haven't really been modding this thread unless something gets reported or I see something, so idk if I'm gonna go back and move posts, but I would appreciate having a separate thread about the games stuff and moving discussion there
