Susan's about to become one of my absolute favorite personal lolcow types: the "medical kidnapping" ones whose children have been removed by the state due to the mom's extreme incompetence and abuse/neglect.

Inevitably, they have social media that's full of how much they LOOOOOVE THOSE KEEEEEEDS, and how they're just a strong momma bear, y'all, and the only person who knows how to care for their children. The state/their ex/whoever is spreading lies but someday they'll all be reunited. They have whole communities where they talk about how the state should never be able to separate families for any reason, and how the right of parents to decide everything for their kids is absolute. They are total freak shows, whose abusive nature tends to come out in everything they say in an unintentional, hilarious way. And the best part is, they don't have their kids to hurt any more, so you can feel completely fine laughing at them.

I figure after she doesn’t get the kids back on Wed sharing posts about medical kidnapping will begin. As soon as Susan fixated on the term she will beat that drum relentlessly. Also the kids being removed because she was exposing the evil mental health industry an industry so evil she subjected her kids to it as much as humanely possible.

And she is the reason people like me who are trained in ABA have a bad reputation. So since shes giving completely wrong information I will set it straight.

In ABA I get a client the first thing I do is speak to the parents find out the behaviors that are stressing them. I then go thru and choose the most severe behavior, now one of the rules I adhere to is that I do not change a behavior simply because someone else wants it to change, you change behavior to stop distress in the client. So I'll use Bodhi's hand biting as an example.

I do a functional analysis to see why this behavior occurs: demand, escape, self-stimulation, or desire for tangible reward.
This takes a few sessions and during it you include a "free play" control session. When I know why the behavior is occuring I do a preferrential review to see what rewards can be used as reinforcement. Since its hand-biting I am either going to use a DRA or DRO, DRA is alternative behavior you keep his hands occupied so he won't hand bite, and a DRO is incompatible behavior where you would have the child siton his hands or keep them clasped for certain periods to win a reward. THIS is ABA not what that lady or Susan touts.

Yep! Exactly, I have only worked with ONE student out of thousands that required continual support restraint, this is being ready non-stop to redirect hands, using helmets, etc. and he was in belt cuffs for a bit of the day when he was particularlly violent. And it was because he had Lesch Nyan Syndrome where they CONTINUALLY have a compulsion to cause severe harm to themselves. But for the most its verbal de-escalation and redirection.

I had a client with Lesch-Nyan. We had special dispinsation from the state to use mechanical restraints because of how severe it was. They pulled all his teeth to keep him from chewing his tounge off among other things. Thing is, he was cognizant enough to understand the restraints were there for his protection. He was also hilarious and I swear he had a photographic memory because if you asked him where something was in the house he could give you the exact location every time.

I had to register to add my .02. First of all, yep...total HIPAA violation there. Also, do they really offer a Master's in ABA? I'm thinking it would be a Masters in Psychology with a certificate in ABA. In any case, even a volunteer position would teach you not to talk about the clients particularly on social media.

Here's a thought about the timing: The general consensus seems to be that it was timed so Michael couldn't get involved which just doesn't sound like CPS to me. Taking the kids is a huge move and hard to justify if there hasn't been smaller interventions offered and followed up on over the years. Skreech has covered her bases as far as getting doctor's orders for things. Doctor shopping is a bad thing but not really grounds for removal. If the kids were taken for the medication regimen they are on there would have been many interventions attempted before like a required eval at a specified doctor.

I agree that the timing is too perfect to be coincidental. I'm wondering if instead Susan cooked up a crisis to coincide with Amy's delivery date. Or possibly if she was trying to play the Texas thing so it had to be on the date of the csect and delayed leaving. Then announced she was ready, then when they tried to schedule it for end of the month she screeched that he may not live that long and that qualified as a threat.

Feel free to disagree or correct me if you have more info but I have a strong feeling there is something here we're not seeing yet.

This is probably a dumb question but can anyone explain to non-Americans like myself what the hearing on Wednesday entails? Is it like a court hearing or an internal DCFS / law enforcement thing? Are Susan and Cory allowed/required to be there to tell their side of the story? Just some general info would be appreciated

Ususally its for CPS to meet with a judge to explain why removal was necessary, I don't fully know CA law in that though.

Of course the DCFS would finally make their move when I take a break from reading this thread for a couple days. I can't imagine how stupid Cory feels now given that he was singing the DCFS's praises for months before this blew up on his face. I also look forward to seeing Susan backpedal as hard as she can for the next few weeks to try and desperately hide the abusive monster she really is. With any luck she'll do something really dumb in the heat of the moment and get arrested, but I doubt that'll happen. I'm curious to see how different the kids will be when they sober up and are kept away from their parents from here on too. My only hope for them is that they can each lead a relatively normal life when all of this settles.

I think Cory is too stupid to feel stupid.

And yeah, she violated HIPAA the moment she identified the child that was in her care. If it's so easily traceable, least that can happen to her will be a significant fine.

A fine from who? That's one of the insane things about HiPPa. There is no actual enforcement mechanism created for it. Other than Legal Liability in Civil Matters. The Patient can sue you for HiPPa violations, and there are tons of compliance specialists running around. But no method of enforcement was defined in the law. There is no Government Branch of HiPPa enforcement on the Federal Level (although some states do it as part of their Hospital Inspections).
