This reminds me of those awful Alvin and the Chipmunks movies, where the chipmunks looked extremely cartoony and clashed horribly with the live action humans.A possible movie render seems to have popped up also.
I also see they still haven't given him socks, which makes his shoes look uncomfortable (and are now Nike all of a sudden).

I think it's because underneath the semi-vaguely realistic fur texture and human-shaped arms and legs he still has cartoon body proportions. Larger eyes emphasize this while the smaller ones contribute to the problem.
