Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

The park is set to open in Fall but IX won't come out until December. Batuu or whatever has never appeared in anything which just makes it as a choice all the more weirder. I checked Wookieepedia, and the only instance its ever mentioned (a single namedrop) is in a piece of Thrawn media released a few months ago as a way to promote the park. I mean this thing has been in construction since TFA and if its in IX, it'll only be as a forced way to make a promotion for it rather than anything actually inspired. I don't think any of us get it. The whole nature of this park is just baffling. And like I've said before, its weird how easy it would be to convert this park into something else when none of the other franchise-themed lands under Disney would be easy to convert into anything else, since all you would need to make Galaxy's Edge not be Star Wars themed is to remove the ships and the SW alphabet on walls and just replace them with generic alien ships and rename if to "Alien Land".

Edit:
Apparently there's a book in the works to explain what Batuu is and why its important to Star Wars, but the damn thing isn't going to be released until just before or after the freaking park is finished. And this won't answer jack shit because nobody even knows this book will even exist and those I know who have heard about the park itself think its gonna be Tatooine or Coruscant.

I even know a guy who is spending a shitload of money to "practically live there for half a year" and he genuinely believes the park is going to be Tatooine and that he'll be able to hang out at Chalmund's cantina in cosplay and rock out with the 'jizz whalers'. Worst part is he's so damn hopeful that he refuses to see any spoilers that prove none of the things he wants are gonna be in the park other than the Falcon, but he wants to revel in the delusion even if he'll spend a shit ton of money for no reason. I at least hope that waiting 8 hours in line to ride the Millennium Falcon will be satisfactory enough for him that he won't come back completely bummed.
So when people complained about not understand all those plot holes and lore inconsistencies in the sequel movies, they were told to buy and read the supplemental novelizations and comics.

Now when people complain about not understanding the premise of this theme park, they are going to be told to buy and read the supplemental novelization :story:

Why would anyone waste time reading shitty books in order to understand the lazy writing of the films that’s never explained? That is one of the most dumbest mentalities a Hollywood producer could have.

Yes, outside content is meant to be optional and supplemental. It should never be required to understand a movie.

As great as the two Clone War shows are (and in a lot of cases, make the Prequels better), they are in no way necessary to understand the story that the Prequels were telling. For their faults, they provided enough detail and background information to tell a cohesive story.

Movies need to stand up on their own merits, part of which is having a story that's easy enough to follow. If the audience feels like they need to spend money on books and comics to understand what the hell's going on in a movie, then you have failed at telling a story.

Alright, I have some of the Galaxy's Edge info ready.

First off, one of the reasons the park feels so disconnected from Star Wars (according to perplexing official reasons) is because its intended to be the start of a new and HUGE multimedia project that will include a shit ton of books, comics, guides, etc (some of which aren't even named yet) and if it all goes well, it might gets its own movie or tv show (probably nothing special, like something on par with Galaxy of Adventures). The reasons for this are varied but the most common one getting spread about is a desire to move away from the Trilogy films. In other words they want Galaxy's Edge to be its own franchise that just happens to share some similarities with SW, making me further suspect that they just want to replace SW. All of the new media is set to come out just before and after the park's opening, which means people will be going in without a clue of what this place is or where its from. Of the named media, the most important ones are adventure books that will detail Batuu's history, importance and yadda yadda.

Out of the known pieces of media confirmed for Galaxy's Edge, none of them have any connection with any well known characters except one titled Galaxy's Edge: Blackspire which only has Leia and Chewbacca as cameos to explain why the Millennium Falcon is there (unmanned) and why you (the tourist) get to be recruited into the Resistance. The Galaxy's Edge stories revolve around entirely new characters and will presumably be just one of the many new stars of this multimedia project, the first of which is a girl named Izzy who moved away from Batuu but came back and reunites with her bff Jules, a questionable lad of ill repute and she will soon prove that she's as capable as him... The other mostly focuses on the spy recruiting people which is just to explain the story that goes on in the rides. This is presumably to further enforce the the Galaxy's Edge multimedia project as a new franchise.

Also Galaxy's Edge will try to bring a more notable focus on fantasy and magic to Star Wars, especially on Batuu, as future stories hope to do, starting with a new book of stories titled Myths and Fables which actually hold truths.

"Skyrim: Star Wars Edition"

One of these truths is that the stone spires and mountains on Batuu aren't actually stone or mountains, they're actually petrified guardian trees stumps (this has been confirmed outside of the fables book in the official bio for Batuu on SW.com). Other than that, the novel's contents are a mystery until a year or half a year from now and only one of the stories has been publicly revealed, and its one that takes place on Tatooine. According to the story, they retcon the serpentine Krayt Dragon of Tatooine into a generic flying fantasy dragon named Krayt who was actually slain by a mighty warrior who saves a tribe of Sand People (a lot of new media has been trying to portray sand people as misunderstood and acting in self-defense). The mysterious warrior was a Tusken Raider chosen to slay the dragon for being the strongest of the tribe, and the twist ending is that she turns out to be a woman (this is the third time they've implied that most tusken raider warriors are actually female, with one of the other two times being a retcon of the tusken raider that attacked Luke being female now). YAS QUEEN SLAY. The only thing from this story they could mark as genuine fable is the fact that Krayt could talk and plan.

Now for the aliens. If anyone recalls from the last time I mentioned this, the park will feature mostly original aliens and a few from the movies (mostly the sequel trilogy) with the familiar ones being a minority. Familiar named ones consist of Chewbacca, C-3PO, R2D2 and Ackbar, and some of the ones from Star Tours may show up there on certain days... also BB-8... For familiar background civilian aliens, the only ones confirmed so far are twi'leks, mainly a waitress, a singer and a performer (but whether they'll be seen in the streets is still unknown). Supposedly, according to artwork, a few jawas and some niktos which will be exclusively found in a small recently announced bar area called Oga's Cantina which is basically a cheaper and smaller copy of Tatooine's Chalmund's Cantina but more "futuristic", presumably made due to complaints of the lack of familiarity in the new parks due to its last minute announcement, but it won't have the Bith jizz musicians, and instead the bar's music will be techno pop shit performed by the droid from Star Tours who has been "downgraded" into a DJ. The cantina will be the primary hang out for the familiar named characters like Chewbacca.

Other than the costumed aliens, several aliens will be stationary animatronics. And here is the most important one and the only confirmed animatronic based on a familiar species:

An Ithorian with long eyelashes named DokOndar. His name was first dropped in Solo to promote the park but he was not seen. Other than that, he hasn't appeared in anything. Anyway, his role in the park is to remain in his store where he "sells" antiques. Visitors can interact with him by taking objects from his store and putting them in his tiny hands which begins an explanation sequence where he tells you what the item is. After the park is finished he will be getting his own comic book to explain why he's important (his name "reverberates" across the universe) and make sense of the shit he says about the useless gift shop items. He is the only Ithorian in the park according to info so far.

Droids in the park will mainly be R5-D4 inspired droids.

There's more to tell but I'm frankly tuckered out. So I'll continue adding more info later if that's alright.

Edit: Fuck it. Here's one more. One of the other major books scheduled for release is a cookbook filled with food nobody's ever heard of that's actually meant to explain the food they will sell at the park. Some rumors state that instead of blue bantha milk, they'll have green sea cow titty milk! Just like the kind our pathetic hero Luke loves so much!

A shame Disney doesn't seem to understand that. That was something pre-Disney Lucasfilm and its EU understood. They were bonuses that could work as standalone as well as follow ups (especially the games) and even the movies weren't required for most of them and vice versa, unlike Disney and their new canon where everything is mandatory and can't work as standalone because you have to read every single fucking thing to follow one fucking storyline in the new movies and their DEU material or understand why something doesn't make sense in the new movies or new comics. And it doesn't help that all of it feels like it was done by Chuck Wendig and does its best to remind you that you need to get woke; and whether Chuck's been fired or not doesn't matter since his self-insert still exists in TFA, the comics and will be in IX too.

Resistance is the one where the kid has an energy slingshot instead of a blaster, right? Reminding me of that 40k for kids thing where there's that girl who hates weapons?

In both cases, I just want the Dark Eldar to deal with those brats. You know Star Wars is about war. There's a war. That's the point, it's an excuse for cool laser spaceship battles, and that's what people want. Disney doesn't seem to understand that people want cool laser space fights and instead they think people want M'Rey Sue lecturing people on Wokeness and Good Thinking.

Disney is not doing itself a huge favor by trying to be the company with the sanitized, kid-friendly image that they are aiming for. Star Wars is about war in space. Trying to make it goofy, non-threatening, with sanded-off, round edges and nothing "bad" happening to people, it can't work. Even a kid-friendly show can dare to show a bit of a fight here and there, it doesn't have to be about silly hijinks or something.
Disney made "Gargoyles", which was a pretty good show, with quite some violence and character deaths at times. Why don't they do that with SW? By trying to make a kid-show for all ages, they are limiting themselves way too much.

And besides, Ghibli has a number of amazing movies that appeal to a great variety of ages and they certainly don't shy away from showing battles.

Laaaaame. Most people who go to the Parks, or any attractions really, wanna see the world they know from movies and walk around in that, they don't want to see something which has the name of a franchise they love slapped onto it, but requires reading outside material to actually understand.

Joanna and Michael want to see the nice buildings from Naboo, the cantina from Tattooine, the 50s diner from Clone Wars, stuff like that.

This seems like some generic science fiction universe which wants to piggyback on Star Wars since otherwise it's forgettable since it's written by hacks. But maybe Disney is preparing it for conversion into "Galaxy's Edge" in case they lose the rights to Star Wars.

True. I'm sure someone smiled at how Dash Rendar's ship showed up in Mos Eisley in the Special Editions. Or how Zahn's Coruscant showed up in The Phantom Menace.

Meanwhile Disney expects you to be like "holy shit, that's Snap from Blacker and Acker's fart fetish book!" when you see that random guy who's Chuck Wendig's self-insert. In addition to expecting you to read their EU lest you be that retard who asks why Rey beat Kylo Ren's ass in TFA, why she's so strong in general, why the New Republic is so weak, or any other plot hole of the movies.

But maybe Disney is preparing it for conversion into "Galaxy's Edge" in case they lose the rights to Star Wars.
I'm honestly getting more convinced of that with each new bit of info that comes out. Like I've said before, all they would need to do is replace the ships and SW costumes and scrape off the aurebesh, and the park can easily be converted into anything else. And look at the Ithorian, his hands don't even match up with what we've seen of that species, so all they'd need to do is replace his head to remove that piece of Star Wars from the store.

Ostatnio edytowane:
I don't believe Disney will lose the license. I do believe they're getting ready for a time when the license is actively toxic, when "generic space opera" pulls in more people than "Star Wars".
I'm not convinced of them ever losing the license (I've gone into blackpilled tirades about how they'll never let go of that poor cow). What I am convinced of is that they realize the IP isn't working out like they had hoped, so they'll just silently push it aside and plan to convert Galaxy's Edge to not have SW references in the future.

Some more pics.

Some rumors state that instead of blue bantha tard cum, they'll have green sea cow titty tard cum!

I can understand trying to do something alongside the existing stuff rather than in the middle, but Disney Wars in general seems more and more like they found out after the deal finished that there's some elements of the Star Wars IP that they don't entirely own the rights to and they're trying to dance around it.

Meanwhile Disney expects you to be like "holy shit, that's Snap from Blacker and Acker's fart fetish book!" when you see that random guy who's Chuck Wendig's self-insert. In addition to expecting you to read their EU lest you be that exceptional individual who asks why Rey beat Kylo Ren's ass in TFA, why she's so strong in general, why the New Republic is so weak, or any other plot hole of the movies.
It's the EA model: Disney sells a half finished, broken product, and charges you to buy a fix for it, showing their disrespect for both consumer and material.

I don't believe Disney will lose the license. I do believe they're getting ready for a time when the license is actively toxic, when "generic space opera" pulls in more people than "Star Wars".

It's highly unlikely Disney will ever surrender Star Wars without a sum of billions being paid (god knows who would pay that much for it), but "generic space opera" will never pull more than Star Wars will, since "generic space opera" in most people's minds basically is Star Wars.

This is probably the case, and why they're making what appears to be stupid decisions. They probably are stupid decisions in the long term, but Disney knows that solving any legal issues involved in using the OT would costs millions and could have some negative court injunctions. Making a cookie-cutter park like they've done can't possibly provoke any of those rights holders so is cheaper and in the short term will produce plenty of money.

I wonder if process of elimination can help determine what they don't have. Like glancing at things so far I'd hazard they have stuff from preproduction of the OT, but not visual elements that appear in the OT as they were on screen? That would be a more reasonable explanation of why it's all like 3p0 with the new arm and the Falcon with the new radar dish and the fighters with the different paint as opposed to the "Bad Robot merchandise" theory.

That would explain a lot. Most of the new stuff that appears in Disney Wars that isn't original is based on pre-production material and a lot of the new aliens and worlds seen in the DEU, Rebels and Resistance are either original or based heavily on rejected or unused concept art and ideas from past media. Disney's desire to replace and eliminate not just previous elements but OT heroes as well shows that they may have legal issues with them or that they simply don't want to keep paying anyone (especially 3rd party creators and actors) royalties for them.

If we go by process of elimination, Disney seems to only have complete control over the franchise's name and superficial elements in the OT and only a few pieces of Prequel media, and only full ownership of three EU properties (Filoni Wars, the Mandalorians and Battlefront). Anyway, its clear that Disney has some ownership over OT elements even if its not complete control, but they do not seem to have have as much control over stuff from the prequels aside from Filoni Wars, and they certainly don't have any real ownership over the original releases of the OT or the EU, at best only being allowed to use names and occasionally appearances when (a little spitballing here) the right people are paid. For example, from what I can tell, in regards to prequel media, they still have control over Clone Wars stuff exclusively created by Filoni, like Ahsoka, the space pirates, a few specific clones (Cody has apparently been wiped off the face of the galaxy), and other minor stuff but nothing that was completely prequel exclusive and EU exclusive that appeared in Filoni Wars, and I base this on how these elements have been used in new Disney media and Filoni Wars inspired media, like Rebels which made use of these few CW original elements but none of the truly exclusive stuff I mentioned. Prequel media in general hasn't appeared as much outside of one shot comics or very short lived comic series like Anakin & Obi-Wan. Overall, prequel-based stuff is a notable minority in new media, and a notable location like Coruscant has also been phased out in favor of newer city planets, with the most notable city planet being the Not-Coruscant that got destroyed in TFA. Some have said that this was due to Disney and JJ's notable apprehension towards the prequels they had early on which they would mock irregularly, but something tells me that there is some kind of limit to what they're allowed to do considering how rare it is in the DEU. I should also add that the only EU element in the DEU that truly feels like it belongs to Disney (regardless if it was headed by people not currently under their payroll) now are the Mandalorians, but the way they're portrayed and everything that's known about them exclusively comes from Filoni Wars. Although Disney has implied that they want to do a Mandalorian multimedia project if the Mandalorian show proves successful, so what they'll do for that is anyone's guess and may tell if Disney has complete control over all Mandalorian media pre-Disney or just the stuff Filoni introduced.

So with that, in regards to prequel media, they clearly have full ownership of Filoni Wars (mostly its original elements) and the Mandalorians (specifically their portrayal in Filoni Wars). In regards to pre-Disney games, they only have ownership of Battlefront. For pre-Disney books, they only have control of Thrawn due to Zahn now working for Disney. And for OT material, they have control over lightsabers and the brand name. C-3PO and R2D2 have essentially been phased out in exchange for Finn and BB-8, and the heroes of the OT are being phased out with newer heroes (presumably due to not wanting to keep paying Ford and the rest more royalties), with their only recurring appearances being in Galaxy of Adventures and the Marvel comics, although they seem to have more control over Leia now. And speaking of Galaxy of Adventures, they use audio from the OT in said shorts but its weird in that it switches between terrible quality and okay quality, like those youtube videos of old shows that have their volumes fucked with to avoid a copyright strike.

Which begs the question, if Disney successfully absorbs FOX, would they still get the rights to the unaltered OT or is it possible that George himself could've stipulated in his contract that Disney should never be allowed to release the non-special editions of the OT? How much could George have gotten away with in the contracts?

Some sort of incomprehensible rights issues would explain a lot. It reminds me of the Star Trek mess that Midnight's Edge keeps trying to unravel.

Will face characters from the movies appear? Sounds dumb to ask but a lot of people get excited at the idea of taking pictures with their favorite characters here and there, and I've seen some Rey/Leia costumers in the parks around, so I guess Poe, Han, etc will appear soon.

I haven't heard anything explicit about familiar human characters, as all I know is that characters from Star Tours: The Adventure Continues may show up there on certain days except classic stormtroopers. If by some miracle Luke and Leia are at the park, it would be their old selves rather than their young selves since Disney wants to preserve a "continuity" within the park by having it only have stuff that would exist 30 years after the OT.

On another but related note, most rumors online I see suspect the possibility that Leia might not die in IX just to have her appear at Galaxy's Edge while Luke and Han may show up as ghosts to preserve the continuity they want to enforce at the park, which I don't see why its important.
