Star Wars Griefing Thread (SPOILERS) - Safety off

So I watched Solo because hey it's on Netflix. I don't think it was THAT bad. Infact I really enjoyed Chewbacca and Han meeting for the first time as it was neat to see Chewie filmed as a daunting Movie Monster. And I liked the portrayal of the Sabacc game.

But man did the rest of that movie suck. I felt Woody Harrelson phoned it in completely and I felt no interest whatsoever in the MacGuffin. I completely zoned out in fact, it was just like the macguffin of Guardians of the Galaxy, except in that comic book nerds knew far in advance the Infinity Stone is a big fucking deal when this movie's big treasure is Fuel???

Also the movie screwed up having Paul Betthany's character get killed by Emilia Clarke. Han should have shot him. It undermines his cockiness in ANH to dismiss lightsabers when he got his ass handed to him by a guy who was using Daggers.

Also what the hell were they smoking with that female Droid that Lando wanted to bang? That was awful.

This has been debunked, Johnson himself. The link has been updated to reflect this, so I'm not gonnna bother reposting anything.

FWIW, and by way of background, this tweet is apparently what set everyone off:

Edit: Given the timestamp on this tweet and when the articles were published, I should probably walk that claim back about this being the source. I bought the /r/saltierthancrait claim without doing any digging, my bad. Unless they really can move that quickly?

Apparently this guy is a huge defender of the ST and of Rian Johnson, though I'd never heard of him before.

Sperging and circle-jerking about it at /r/saltierthancrait :

Added bonus that they didn't archive the article in the OP. Which has now been deleted. Amateur hour, somebody send @Null over there to yell at them about the importance of archiving.

Disney really should consider pulling the plug on the trilogy.

That isn't a middle finger to Rian Johnson or anything. It is more my feeling that Disney has over saturated the brand to an unhealthy degree.

Less is more guys. You don't need a SW movie every friggin year.

Oh no, Disney wants to take as much as they can from Star Wars, then leave its drained husk on the side of the road, like everything else. And unlike Marvel, they wiped the EU entirely, so that means that their well of usable material is running low (since who the fuck wants to see Jar Jar Abrams's donut steels?)

That was actually their plan from the get go.

They were planning to mi'lk this franchise annually and as hard as possible for a hundred years without even thinking about saturation and quality control. It wasn't until the negative feedback started kicking in that they decided to slow it down.

When the majority of their new media revolves around just three films (and their own limited sequels) while substituting originality with wokeness, you realize just how quickly they ran out of ideas while exposing how creatively bankrupt they are. This is proven all the more true in the Resistance cartoon where one of the most "dangerous" moments is them trying to survive against a fat version of Salacious B. Crumb (Jabba's monkey jester from ROTJ).

Regardless, when they canned any pre-existing lore, they realized they had nothing, which is why I suspect they doubled the production for their nu-EU material in just 5 years to make it bigger than the old one to make up for their lack of lore to borrow from, but all that's done is create an even more saturated and hard to follow mess since there was no one at Lucasfilm anymore trying to maintain coherency of any kind like Chee did. Even the new SW Lego media is used for lore ffs. Only remotely original thing under their belt are the Marvel comics but those are shit.

Resistance is the one where the kid has an energy slingshot instead of a blaster, right? Reminding me of that 40k for kids thing where there's that girl who hates weapons?

In both cases, I just want the Dark Eldar to deal with those brats. You know Star Wars is about war. There's a war. That's the point, it's an excuse for cool laser spaceship battles, and that's what people want. Disney doesn't seem to understand that people want cool laser space fights and instead they think people want M'Rey Sue lecturing people on Wokeness and Good Thinking.

And that's why I wasn't buying it until the mouse or Johnson himself says it's dead, and I have the feeling neither of them will say it so explicitly and the trilogy will just be in limbo until long after no one gives a shit about Disney Wars. Everything so far has just been wishful thinking and circlejerking.

No, that was Rebels. Resistance is the one about a Resistance spy infiltrating a racing facility where no weapons of any kind are allowed. And FYI the MC is a complete bumbling idiot.

War is problematic you silly goose.

No way. The whole fucking amusement park is gonna be ST themed. Or at any rate not reference either the OT or the PT, if Batuu doesn't show up in EP IX. No, I don't get it, either. But there it is.

The park is set to open in Fall but IX won't come out until December. Batuu or whatever has never appeared in anything which just makes it as a choice all the more weirder. I checked Wookieepedia, and the only instance its ever mentioned (a single namedrop) is in a piece of Thrawn media released a few months ago as a way to promote the park. I mean this thing has been in construction since TFA and if its in IX, it'll only be as a forced way to make a promotion for it rather than anything actually inspired. I don't think any of us get it. The whole nature of this park is just baffling. And like I've said before, its weird how easy it would be to convert this park into something else when none of the other franchise-themed lands under Disney would be easy to convert into anything else, since all you would need to make Galaxy's Edge not be Star Wars themed is to remove the ships and the SW alphabet on walls and just replace them with generic alien ships and rename if to "Alien Land".

Edit:
Apparently there's a book in the works to explain what Batuu is and why its important to Star Wars, but the damn thing isn't going to be released until just before or after the freaking park is finished. And this won't answer jack shit because nobody even knows this book will even exist and those I know who have heard about the park itself think its gonna be Tatooine or Coruscant.

I even know a guy who is spending a shitload of money to "practically live there for half a year" and he genuinely believes the park is going to be Tatooine and that he'll be able to hang out at Chalmund's cantina in cosplay and rock out with the 'jizz whalers'. Worst part is he's so damn hopeful that he refuses to see any spoilers that prove none of the things he wants are gonna be in the park other than the Falcon, but he wants to revel in the delusion even if he'll spend a shit ton of money for no reason. I at least hope that waiting 8 hours in line to ride the Millennium Falcon will be satisfactory enough for him that he won't come back completely bummed.

I wonder if the OT and PT are so avoided because of the distribution rights of the movies with Fox? So they avoid everything from either of them that they can to keep all of the licensing under The Mouse’s control. Though you still would think they’d involve the park somehow, with one of the movies at least. I mean is there anybody in charge there? It wouldn’t have even taken that much to tweak it a bit and have it be the not!Yavin from TFA. Have the restaurant be Maz’s place.

This is the exact same mentality record companies had when glam metal was popular up until Grunge killed it.

Back in the day, fans were going to rewatch the same film as long as it was playing. Keep up the quality, and they'd go every year, just like people go to see the latest Marvel film every few months.

"Oversaturation" is a marketing lie to avoid saying "the fans regret seeing these films once."

The vid is a couple days old, just including it with the tweet for the sake of reference.

Gotta love how a litigious giant that hates independent artists preaches the privilege gospel.

Was this before or after home video became a thing?

I found a surprising amount of info on Galaxy's Edge which I'll try to post as soon as I can. I can't tell if it answers questions or raises even more...
