I believe she's supposed to be a cis woman. Her name in the comic is Slightly, but I believe her real-life counterpart is named Courtney.

Edit: There is an enby partner in the comic though. They look a bit like a darker-skinned Slightly.

I wish whomever was paying for commission artwork was also sharing them, I've not seen them on the chans so I don't know who'd be hoarding them. Must be nice to be getting patreon money to make a comic, then not make the comic on time because singular people are paying more per person than the patrons! ...I'm not really disgusted, all artists are like this and it just seems sensible with limited hours in the day & energy available.

That's what really bothers me about their Patreon and such. Now that I know they are doing commissions I need to ask what else they are doing that they can't do them? The comic they've barely been uploading? Where are the commissions anyways?

Doing a commission is a job. You can have depression, anxiety, etc. No one says that's not an issue when it comes to these sorts of things. But the more I see it as an excuse the more I have to wonder how these artists manage anything? Doing a comic and doing commissions + a patreon is not an easy task to maintain. You'd have to cut corners somewhere. You have to plan what you do or it gets worse.

This is management 101. Can't say I'm not surprised but I really hate artists that do this crap. People can care that you are depressed, but they also care that you meet the end of your agreement.

I love this attitude e-beggars get where they think all their patreon based bosses will just keep handing them money for no output. There may be some clingers who stick around because they think it looks good, but honestly it's no different from being a welfare leech.

So instead of making a price sheet(not having prices up front is suspicious to a lot of people), sprucing up her art, and showing something that doesn't look like it was churned out in a couple of minutes ( I can see anatomy errors with Ruby and Sapphire's heads) they decide to procrastinate, post pics of there vacation and not show any of the work whatever? And then she complains about rich people despite taking a trip to Hawaii? One of the most expensive places to visit on the planet? Really?

This is why you need to be wary of these types of people doing things like this. And it's also the reason why I can't take Jess seriously. Jess took a break from making comics just a little while ago. I can get having a break, but then, she goes on vacation (which I hope she told her commissioners) and complains about rich people. No normal working class person, unless they saved for a while just randomly goes to Hawaii for a vacation. (Granted it's winter is not the best time for tourism necessarily and she did go with her family which could cover some costs) but the least you can do is pretend you are working.

The family story is shaky, Jess writes it as if it's xer family, but it's the female significant other's family(a long lost brother), but they have photos of the two of them but not the brother, the whole point of the trip? Seems fishy.

Seeing the significant other though, if they're living together that's the extra income that makes sense with how Jess is making ends meet.

As the dox shows, his name was Jesse, so taking the close feminine match keeps a ring of truth to adopting it. Like a Frank to Francine, they'd feel comfortable being called "Frankie" before and after.

The excuses about lacking time to draw a comic also ring hollow considering Jess’ art style isn’t exactly the kind that’ll get on anyone’s “Top 10” list any time soon, and from the looks of it her doesn’t really do much in the way of layouts. Same goes for the writing.

If you “don’t have the time” to squeeze out what looks like ten minutes worth of effort, you’re either have a very demanding job or you’re a liar.
