So I'm just going to call it now, this whole scandal is going to cause the downfall of the anime industry and fandom in America as we know it. No one is going to come out unscathed from it. Not ANN, not Funimation, not the YouTube reviewers cashing in on this, not any of Vic's detractors or defenders (or anyone else attacking the opposite sides), not any of the voice actors claiming that Vic's a bad guy (especially Marchi, Rial or Kaplan), and not Vic himself if he loses this. If anyone manages to rebound from this, I will be surprised.

So guess we just sit back and watch the fireworks, then? I'm down with that.

Speaking of Kaplan

** 15:05 Emily exposes Niel Kaplan for sexual harrasment and unwanted advances towards her, Neil Kaplan has been speaking out against Vic. This makes Niel look like a complete hypocrite and again makes it seem like a group of powerful VA's are working together to bring Vic down and misdirect attention from their own misconduct.

Atleast Reuben Langdon is autistic enought to not dragged into the #metoo gay ops
*sigh*
I'd say give it some time. Now that Kaplan's been outed, it's only going to be a matter of time before we start seeing other actors dragged into it. Maybe not Reuben specifically, but I would love to see how his Voltron co-stars are going to handle these proceedings going forward.

You can say that about everyone really. It's only a matter of time before people start realizing "Hey, these defenders of Vic really aren't all that good either" or "Let's see what skeletons the ANN users/Twitterfags/YouTube shills either slandering or defending him have." I mean they already know the bullshit people like Digibro, Mother's Basement, Jamie Marchi or the ANN crew have. Who's stopping them from exposing others and their nasty pasts to the greater public? Maybe we'll even see some doxing come from either side in retaliation.

Virtue signalers always have a pile of skeletons in their closet.

The fact that they're taking random ass people making baseless accusations as evidence also opens them up for one for some good drama.

Perhaps this'll grow to be zoosadism but with anime.

I know about Digibro and MB, but what what about Jamie Marchi?

I wonder if it would be sexual harassment if someone brought Stephanie Sheh some hentai DVDs she worked in to sign...

I actually just remembered this looking back through her roles, but she played the 15-year-old sister from Koi Kaze, which is an incest anime (which JesuOtaku had reviewed by the way and gave two-and-a-half out of four stars), in which her brother-turned-lover is 27. (Granted, the show actually treats the subject maturely because it may be referring to genetic sexual attraction and so it doesn't fall in the same traps as other incest anime typically do. Still, though.)

Oh, and Patrick Seitz was the brother. Didn't know this until looking it up just now, but he was mentioned in the main anime thread some weeks back. So there. :story:

Rumors about Vic were old when I was on the con circuit about 15 years ago. I remember the first time I went to one where he was a guest, heading to the panel, and people pulling me to the side and telling me stories and encouraging me not to go talk to him. But they were reeeeeal quiet about it and didn't make a scene. It was just sort of an open secret that Vic 'Mangina' was shit, but he had friends, usually people running the show, who would cover for him and throw you out if they caught you spreading 'unsubstantiated rumors'. I never really interacted with the guy to say if I got that vibe though, I wasn't a fan of his cornball voice acting anyway so avoiding him was easier.

So on one hand I will be negative surprised if it all turns out to be true, because it more or less falls in line with what I've been told for over a decade. On the other, the fact the accusations against him sounds verbatim like a bunch of dicey rumors that are old enough to drink kinda makes me wonder if that's the whole story. I'm no fan so I got no dog in defending him, but there's something about the whole thing that just keeps niggling at me.

Who would figure the world of cartoon voices could be so grim?

Okay, glad to know I'm now the only one who went through this, because lord almighty. It was such an open secret in those days; it seemed like you either loved Vic or you'd heard stories about how he was a diva to convention staff and kind of infamous for getting handsy with the fangirls.

Goddamn it, Hawkmon. I know you must've had so many questions watching Yolei grow up, but that's not appropriate. At all.

Fuck, now I'm starting to get paranoid. It's spreading into Digimon. (:_(
At least Joshua Seth got out while the gettin was good and just came back to voice Tai for TRI because fans would burn down the studio if he didn't. He's the only voice actor I've seen who's blatantly said that voice acting is a hellscape. He did some kind of interview about it, but I can't seem to dig it up now.

I wouldn't be surprised if other people who have quietly bailed out over the years, or even just other non-union VAs, have stories about the anime dub industry being shady as fuck.

And like I mentioned already, Neil worked on Voltron, who knows what his co-stars there have to really say about the guy.

I don't dare to go look up my all-time favorite VAs for fear of their social media being a dumpster fire, but of them, the one I feel who has the most chance of potentially getting #MeToo'd is Ted Lewis because I dunno, he just kinda has that look, I'm not going to lie. I don't want that to be true and not just because of childhood nostalgia attached to him (and that he was in so many roles in the obscure OVAs and shows I would come across that he grew on me), but because of how fucking obvious it is to imagine him using his Paul Lynde impression to jokingly hit on guys with "Well hello there, sailor".

Oh God, it's both so hilarious and creepy given the face I can see it being attached to as he says it.

Meanwhile I would actually like to hear Barbara Goodson's or even Mona Marshall's stories about their time in the industry since they've been in practically everything. They may know of some shit.

It just goes to show if you're going to be a celebrity who plays Mr. Grabass, don't be a fucking anime nerd, be a rock star. As long as it's not 12 year olds nobody will complain and if they do you can laugh at them on your way to the bank.

I dunno man, the drummer from Sigur Rós go #metoo'd awhile back in one of the flimsiest accusations I'd ever seen. And you think relative obscurity and a tight-knit community would keep a guy like that safe, especially when she flat out said she consented to sex in the same wall of text she accuses him.

They're not even rock though.

Call me retarded but is 'post-rock' not a part of the 'rock' umbrella? I have about as great a grasp on micro labels in music as I do micro labels in gender. I mean the point either way is he was a somewhat popular musician and was obliterated in an instant by the fakest sounding story in history. Hell, even David Bowie wasn't free of #metoo. The vultures started circling him after he fucking died trying to pull out 40 year old receipts against the guy alleging he may have possibly slept with an underage roadie in some point in time in his life maybe possibly. No one is really safe.
