It's obvious as hell, right? And yet we aren't procreating. Apparently something else is more important. Which is insane.

Maybe this drop in reproduction across developed countries is part of our evolutionary programming to prevent overcrowding/overconsumption of resources/whatever. Or maybe we, as Westerners, live more and more of our daily lives ensconced in delusion instead of dealing with the real world, and the more integrated the internet becomes into our lives, the worse this will get.

Blame Social Security, The New Deal, and The Great Society*, for removing the incentive for forming a nuclear family. Children are supposed to take care of you when you get old, and a spouse to help you raise them, and provide for them while they're growing up. SS removes the incentive for having enough children to support you in your dotage, while also being a Ponzi scheme that requires an ever-growing population to sustain.

I for one cannot wait for the Democrats to once again to turn a small victory (the shutdown) into a huge defeat (the second shutdown because they now will not negotiate on the wall when they said they would).
 
Wealthy intelligent people have fewer babies (when they should have more).

Poor dumb people pump out babies (when they should have none).

This is especially worse in situations where welfare incentives make it painless to have as many children as you can birth.

Not to mention overpopulation is a meme. Just don't live in a city and everything is fine. The US tosses so much food it's insane.

Seems a bit :optimistic: to me...

I'm sure about 50% of the country will feel, even if Pelosi got on TV and said "I am being uncooperative with Trump because I think it's funny when poor people suffer" that it's all trump's fault, and the wall must be resisted at all costs because it's really racist and stuff.

Surely after this whole fentanyl thing, they should give old Drumpf his wall now, right? The Democrats are only rejecting Trump's offer because they don't want to see Trump win. They're trying to trap him in a stalemate because they hate his guts because "he wasn't supposed to WIN". That is such a petty-ass thing todo. The Demos are acting like children.

I'm simply pointing out that someone individually making the personal decision not to have children is fine, but when too many people do it, it's not sustainable, and we'll be outbred by people who don't give a shit about our country's values. (And best of all, they'll outbreed us on the taxpayer's dime! Because muh compassion.)

Meaning is individual. The meaning of our lives is up to each of us to decide. For many people, having kids and continuing their genetic line is not of paramount importance in their value system. Maybe it's even a meaningless biological imperative they're "above." That's fine as long as they understand that that's in no small sense a nihilistic decision they're making.

But still, it's not fine if we all do it. Unless entire populations aging out and dying is great news.

Well, they don't want to give him a political win, and this is the most significant political win he could get at the moment. I don't blame them, from a strategic standpoint, for not wanting to negotiate.

But I do blame them for playing chicken with an issue this important to so many voters. (And, indeed, important to the future of the country.) It's clear they only care about "America" if they can fundamentally alter it into something else.

It's sad that politics is in many ways just a game of chess about trying to manipulate the opposite party and prevent them from succeeding for the good of the American people.
