That's pretty interesting to me. I've seen him go through a few phases when it comes to being "accused" of using a guide. I've seen his MGS phase where he swore blind he didn't look anything up. Pointedly saying he was playing blind but then tripping himself up a few times, like the time I mentioned where he seemingly without thought admitted to looking stuff up before playing.

I've seen his DkS phase where he seemingly looked at chat so much it seemed like he was trying to antagonize viewers. DkS2 springs to mind, he seemed close to tears at some points and got very defensive about it. This is the most confusing to me, we could clearly see him on screen looking at chat every 5 seconds but then denying it. This is also where I saw him stop playing for a while and ask his chat whether to go left or right.

IDK why he's seemed so desperate to appear to not have used guides. I personally don't see a problem with it. If you get to a point in a game and you legitimately for whatever reason can't progress then fuck it, break that guide out. I used some in the DkS series, to finish side-quests after hours of fucking about with no luck.

It's just so weird to have seen him so clearly read chat or randomly figure things out or just know which way to go in a game and him pretend he figured it out solo. Just another example of him making himself look like a twat to me. Just own up to it and use them sparingly.

If he admitted to using guides, he wouldn't come off as some expert level gaymer with great intuition. It's just an ego thing. That shit he pulled during one of his Dark Souls run where he pretended one of the chests was a mimic and acted surprised that there was a fake wall behind it. The fake acting and on top of that, he got tweeted about the Ash Lake from someone earlier.

I think he's going to be on Twitch forever and he'll be in that Renton house forever. He's so lazy, no chance he'll sell the house just for $250k. He's not going to downsize his home, if he sells a $500k home he's going to buy another $500k home. He's not moving to Wyoming or whatever, that's not what Kat signed up for. The only thing he will do is refinance because to him that means free money when in actually it just means consolidating debt.

Keep in mind that those Redfin and Zillow numbers are just estimates. It's highly unlikely that Phil's trash-ass middle-unit Khando would get anywhere close to $400k. Honestly, unless he got lucky (yeah, I know), he probably wouldn't get more than $300-320k after closing, imo.

His so called 10 year legacy is on the internet, his shit fucking handling of the Patreon goals are well documented. The moment he starts talking about patreon, his fans (the actual ones, not the people who mock him) should be asking themselves if this will end up like Mario Sunshine (delayed), or Persona 5 (semi-rage quit, very late finish), Persona 3 (Permanent rage quit). I get that kids and parents credit cards are bad, but that's a family issue. But everything is out there, and not hidden in a box under his bed. As with everything else in his life, his rationale only seems to exist within the actual moment it's being imparted to the audience and sometimes not even then. His version of events and him explaining away his current status is only ever designed to sound good in the moment. The entire reason he obviously doesn't like anyone ever clipping anything he says and thus taking him outta khantext is because he knows: his opinions change like the wind and so often in fact that he can't even remember half of the stuff that comes out of his own mouth.

He's been the pro fighting game player. He's been Mr Average Gamer that Mr Average Consumer can come to for middle of the road ahnest reviews. He can be (and has been at various stages of serving up daily word salad) good at games if he wants to be. He is also in fact One of the Best Gamers in the Country in the same way he considers himself a prolific Lets Player and Youtuber with a legacy - it's not about the quality of the material it's entirely based on the sheer amount of it that he's spammed over the years. In his head being great at something means you do it a lot it doesn't mean you show any particular level of expertise.

And today he's a chill variety streamer who looks at guides on his phone and waits for the chat to walk him through basic tasks and assumes baby mode if they don't serve up the solutions pronto. He's only whatever version of himself suits him at the time.. maybe everyone is in a way but most people don't go on the internet and spend 10 years telling you about it on a daily basis. He can't even keep the story straight on why he believes people still come and watch him. One day it's because he's the same old Phil who's true to himself and refuses to shill and the next people like him because he evolved and changed with the times and will even take Twitch bounties cuz people want variety!

The dumbest thing of all is nobody really gives a shit if he sucks at games on the internet. Some level of success at Super Turbo clearly did a number on his psyche the same way a bit of luck and success on Youtube did it to him all over again. He's always been below average at any game that isn't named Super Turbo. Back in the day I used to think he was good at fighting games like SFIV but quickly realized he's only good against people who are bad under immediate pressure. He charges in like a bull with a basic pattern and if you can get him off you and tech his 4 frantic walk-up throw attempts in a row any idiot can beat him. I did more than once and I was never better than a B+ in that game. :powerlevel: All top players can handle that pressure so even there he gets lost in the fold real fast.

He never figured out he became popular because he sucked at vidyagames. And that's the whole story. It's honestly one of the weirdest things about him and his 10 year begacy.

I don't think he really has a conscience anymore. Ever since he went hardcore patreon and stream begging. I'm sure he was smooth sailing in CT at the beginning and put himself in a rut here in Seattle.
I agree you think he would ask himself "man i'm a piece of shit" but its Phil. The same guy who couldn't do his own laundry. The same guy who had to wake up his sick girlfriend to make him dinner.

Exactly, it's just another little thing he does that's very easy to tell what's happening. I've seen him acknowledge it a few times, he'll openly thank whoever it was that told him. Most times though, the blatancy of it just annoys. All he has to do is be honest about it. Nobody will care if he is.

He does this with a lot of shit, he'll make it a thing instead of just acknowledging whatever and moving on.

What few genuine fans he has left mirror him in a lot of ways. An inability to deal with normal social graces, obviously poor money management skills since they keep handing it over to him. You could maybe stretch that to compulsive gambling for a laugh if you consider that it's a crapshoot on whether or not Phil will pay out and read your cheer or not. Persecution complex. Ambivalence towards any group outside the special circle of friends who don't really wanna hang out with each other - it's all about supporting the bizness!

Swags has seemingly stopped handing out the cash but that's because he mimics the organ grinder so well that after blowing it on a power position (not quite a Washington town house but hey) he's realized all it bought him was the role of Mini Me pariah, the puppet of a more successful social misfit who busts his ass to entertain 250 people nearly every damn day. Twice a day most days. That's FREE content!

The difference though is that plenty of them clearly have obvious issues and seem to have significantly less trouble owning up to them. Phil on the other hand will insist he's pretty much a genius who deserves to be a millionaire for holding out and refusing to get a normal job. He's holding the weight of the world on his shoulders with the strongest structural shape known to man - The T-Pose. Your money just makes the foundation even more stable.. it's nothing like a Ponzi scheme dood.

I think they like him cuz he's a better version of them. At least in terms of money and having the ear of a bunch of dummies anyways.

He did, back when it was a hobby. As soon as this became his job he started taking it a little too serious. When it became necessity I think the hatred for games began to grow.

That and wanting to apparently be pro at every game he plays. He's driven himself half-mad with his desperation to be good at the thing he chose to do.

I remember he'd never shut up about how SF2 was good just because he got 4th place and how he was really good at SF3 (iirc saying he was just as OR better than Daigo) and that it was one of the best games to having so much contempt for them once they got online mode because he realized there were better players than him. His hatred for games seem to stem from online experience and it reached its way into single player mode until he just hated games in general but still plays them because money.

There's one thing that confuses me about Phil's financials. He keeps talking about some day where he can refinance his WA mortgage, and how that's going to resolve all of his financial issues. And yeah, a refinance would defer his payments, or he could get a HELOC and move some of his high-interest CC debt onto it. But he realizes that it's based off of Credit rating, and he's open about not paying off major bills, right? A goal date of "2 years after I stop delaying my mortgage payments 2-3 months" is basically forever for him, especially if his CC interest payments keep going up.
